How to Grow a Tire Shop FAST | Speedy Tire Playbook

In this on‑site video Mike Melton walks viewers through his tire shop while delivering a step‑by‑step blueprint for rapid growth. He showcases daily operations—crew chiefs removing weights, a new mounting machine, and a Nitto Ridge Grappler tire being balanced on a Road Force balancer—while repeatedly emphasizing the importance of self‑led employees, personality‑based team management, and deliberate leader‑development. Melton explains how he uses personality tests to understand 13‑14 staff members, builds a culture where leaders create other leaders, and invests heavily in employee well‑being to “buy back” his own time. He contrasts his shop with a nearby corporate competitor that leaves bays empty and underpays staff, arguing that investing in people is the single biggest ROI. The video also includes a casual golf‑cart ride that serves as a branding touch‑point and a brief product spotlight on Nitto’s Ridge Grappler tire, highlighting its sidewall design and balance performance. Throughout, Melton mixes informal banter with instructional advice, positioning his shop as a model for aspiring tire‑shop owners who want to scale quickly while maintaining family time.

So we do a shirt like this, that's how you look, baby. Yeah, but it ain't gonna look like this. Yo, man, well, we're gonna get you there though. We will get you there if you want to get there. All right, so this is what we do every day. We go through here and everybody is self-led, right? Everybody's got to be a self-leader. So like right now, he's, he's taking weights off of wheels. Before it goes to the mounter. That is a non-negotiable. All right, so right now that's Aiden, he's our crew chief. He's showing my man Dutch here how to use this new machine. So when you're running a company as big as mine, like we have 13, we have 13 or 14 guys working back here in the bay. Like you have to be such a good leader because there's so many different personalities that you got to deal with. That you have to understand each personality. So when my guys came on, they all took a personality test. That way I can better understand my people. Oh yeah. Morgan Braggart! Are you on that monster energy drink this morning? Is that you? Yeah. I knew it was. You know what I knew? Zero sugar. That's right. That's right. I think that's one of the slowest damn drivers I've ever met in my life. All right, baby, we're going to get these off today. Let's go. Huh? All right, I don't want no— I don't want no trouble out of you today. These two right here, you want me to take them now? Yeah. All right, cool. Always paying, baby. That's it? That's it? Damn, I'm trying to get strong out here. You should have been out when I had them 44. Oh yeah, 44. Yeah. We got 200 tomorrow coming, you know that, right? Are you off tomorrow? Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah. The best way to build a business and still have time for your family like I do, where I take off weekends, is to build leaders in your company, okay? Leaders build leaders, and once you do that, you'll have a company that's thriving, a a company that's growing, and you'll have a team of killers, of leaders, and these people will give you your time back. So it's like buying back your time. A lot of people go into business and they're new to business. They know how to do the work. They know how to work on the cars. They know how to detail the cars. They know how to clean the house, right? These are people that open their own business, but they know how to do the work, but they don't know how to run the actual business. And build the leaders inside that business who can, who can start to actually do the work for them so they can get out of the business itself, working in it, and start working on it. That's how you grow it. The biggest mistakes that business owners make when they're trying to build leadership culture and build a big brand is not having the right people around them and not having a mentor in their life that's already done it and is already where they want to go. In order to build a culture where your team cares, listen, and, and business owners, you really need to listen to this. You have to care about your team more than their team cares about themselves, okay? So what I'm saying by that is a lot of people are underdogs, all right? I myself am an underdog, and you won't to make sure that they're good. You want to make sure that their home life's good, their family life's good, because if that ain't good, they're going to bring that bad, um, energy into your, into your shop. And if they ever do, a lot of, a lot of business owners, they, they always like to tend to either get your attitude better or, or you, or, or you're fired, right? So me, I'm a little different. I'm going to dig into the issue. What's bothering you today? You know, and, and we're going to talk about your personal issues. This is where a lot of businesses, they don't care about people. I actually care about my team. That's why we thrive. In order to build a culture and strong leadership, listen, you have to be able to be self-led. If you can't lead yourself, you can't lead others. And then, and then that's when you start to build your culture and your team. So when you start to build your culture, you you start to build your standards. That's where I would start at. This is what I talk about when you guys want to invest in yourselves, invest in your company, or invest in your employees. This right here is what you get. You get empty bays. Now look, we're walking down the road. Look, my shop is right down here, just like I showed the other day. These guys are a big corporation. They have enough money to do the right things, to get the right advertisement, to get the right people, but but they choose to pay people pennies. And this type of company, they choose not to invest in their employees. Listen, your best investment are your team, is your team. Y'all have to understand that. Now let's go around here, show you my place where we're always busy. I say, look, we're right here in Mavis Tires. Look back behind me. What do they get? What are they doing? What is their team doing? So look, they got empty bays. These guys are sitting here draining that company of money. Why? Because that company will not invest in their people and their training. Now let's go to my shop. Let me show you the difference. And now look, we're back in my shop. Come over, follow me around. Look, we got a truck, we got all 4 going on here. We got another all 4 going on here. Come on in here. So look, everybody's working together, right? Scan over here. Look at this. No craziness. In your company, you have to build that team. You have to build that culture. Without that, your company's done. You might as well go ahead and close it up. Big or small, I don't care how much money you got. At some point, your business is going to fail if you don't do the right thing. We are the number one Nitto Tire ambassador. If you can't tell, I got Nitto on my finger. And no, I am not sponsored by Nitto. So if you want to keep saying that, please email Nitto for me right now and say I'm pissed off, I need my check. But in the meantime, let's talk about this Nitto Ridge Grappler. This is one of the most popular tires that Nitto has besides the Nitto G3. So on this tire, so if you look, it's got a different type of sidewall here and a different type of sidewall here. They do that because nobody always wants the same look, or they may be going in some different type of terrain that this sidewall will catch, will catch logs and rocks better than this sidewall when you're going up hills, going through Moab or something like that, right? So right now, come over here, we're going to balance this up. So we got it on Road Force, we got our SUV. All right, so right now we got this tire spinning. This is the Nitto Ridge Grappler. These things always balance out the best. So right now it's putting 1,200 pounds of force on this tire. Right now it's showing me it's not taking any weight. 1,200 pounds of force is going to detect any kind of vibrations. Roller's coming off. Look at that, 7 pounds of force. 7 pounds of force. You can't get no better than Nitto. Look at this guy right here. That's what you— that's what you— this is what you drive when you wear pink thongs, okay? But come on, let's go get on the golf cart. Look at that damn thing. All right, let's get on the golf cart. We got some things to do. Come on, let's go. Come on, brother. Come on. We driving through Lincoln, the baby. Y'all can't do this in a lot of places y'all live at. Make sure that camera's good, brother. You got to keep her steady, steady and ready. Let's go, come on, we going to win. Beating y'all, we beating y'all right here. Sound like we got some 40s on this thing, son. Uh-oh, here she going. They racing, they racing us. She beat us. Not a lot of people especially tire shops, have their own custom golf cart. So my— if my customers need to take it, they come down here, eat. If we need to go to the post office or the bank, where we going now, cuz we got a lot of money deposit, that's why we going— taking in the golf cart anywhere we want to.
