How to RoadForce and Match Balance a tire

Mike Melton demonstrates force matching on a Road Force balancer, using a 245/50R20 Nitto tire with a 30 lb force reading. He marks the high spot on the tire and pairs it with a low spot on the rim, then adds weight to bring the reading down to near zero, eliminating vibration before the wheel goes on the car.

What are we putting on this Explorer? Well, for one, you balance it the right way by the lug holes. And this, you know what it is. Can you tell by the tread? So that's a Nitto G3. This one here is going to be a 245/50R20. So if you're not familiar with the Nitto brand, the Nitto G3 is their all-terrain tire, and it's actually one of their best tires. Now when I say the best, I mean all-terrain. It is a little bit better than that Recon. So if you're looking for an all-terrain tire and you want one of the best, definitely go with the Nitto G3. So we use a Road Force balancer to make sure you're not going to have any kind of vibrations in your wheel and tire assembly, because that could be aggravating. All right, now before we balance this thing out, you got to take that damn sticker off. Let's get her off of there. Come on now, I told you they using too much damn new glue. All right, now let's Road Force this thing. We ain't gonna cut it, we ain't gonna edit. If you're not familiar with the content, this is a Road Force balancer. It diagnoses any kind of vibrations they're going to come out of that wheel and tire assembly before we put it on that vehicle. Now it's coming up, roller's coming off. Now this one here is a little high. It's at 30 pounds of force, which means it's a little high. That can cause the vibration. So we're going to fix this one. So what we're doing now is called force matching. We're going to match these two spots, a high and low spot together. So there it is on the tire. We marked it here and we marked it here on the rim. That's not just a 180 like a lot of guys think that's what fixes it. That's not just what fixes it. All right, now let's see if we fix that thing here in a second. That roller's gonna come back down, it's going to diagnose it, put that pressure on there. We're going to see if we fix it. Did we fix it or not? Let's see. All right, rollers down, keeps rolling. Here in just a second, we already know the weight it's going to call for. Roller's coming off. All right, there we go. We got zero here, ounce and a quarter here. Look at that, 8 pounds of force. That's how you fix a wheel and tire assembly that's going to have a vibration before you put it on the truck. Fix it first.
