This is a YouTube video titled "Most shops balance tires the wrong way let me show you the right way" featuring Mike Melton explaining the correct method for balancing tires. The content is a detailed instructional guide on tire balancing techniques, including weight placement and machine setup, aimed at automotive professionals or enthusiasts. The video was created in June 2025.
Yard balancing tires all the wrong way. Let me show you the right way. All right, for one, when it goes into balancing tires, there's a lot of different factors that go into play. One, making sure the beads seat properly. All right, Number two is make sure you got the correct collet to go into the center board of that wheel. Three, make sure you bounce them by the lug holes. All right, so the reason you bounce by the lug holes and not the center bore, because a lot of times when you have aftermarket rims, the center bore is not true round. So you want to bounce by those lug holes. All right, Three is weight placement. Like a wheel like this. You'll do a clip on and then a stick on right here on the inside. Now, some wheels, mostly, if it's a factory wheel, requires a clip on here and the clip on the back side. Now, this particular wheel here, you can do a clip on or you can do stick on, stick on. Now, a lot of people with static bounces wheel. That's not the right way to do it. Like, you could tell somebody did it old like that. And they just put weights here, not the right way. So the right way to balance this one is you're going to hide the weights behind the spoke right in here, and then you're going to put a weight over here. That way it's dynamically balanced. That way you're not going to have any vibrations. So let's go ahead, put them on the bouncer and show you how it's done. Now, like this person here, they put all the weights on one side. That's static balancing. That's not the right way you do this wheel. Now, some wheels that have a real deep lift do require static balancing. This ain't one of them. All right, we got everything set up right. So this is an LT tire. So we're going to set it to LT limits. All right, now we got it set up for a stick on and stick on. All right, let's bounce her out. All right, you want to make sure everything's running smooth. No hopping in the wheel. If it is, it means you got the wrong. All right, just the road force. We're just putting 1200 pounds of force on the tire, simulating it being ridden on the road. All right, this came up with 21 pounds of force, only an ounce and a quarter. Now let's show you how we place that weight. All right, now you see that dot? You don't want to put the weight there. So we're gonna. We're gonna make it put the weight behind that spoke. All right? What you do, you hit spokes. We're gonna go to inner spokes. All right? We're gonna reverse it there. We're gonna hit the pedal, let it know that's a spoke. Reverse again. Gotta know that's a spoke. Now we're in spoke, so it's going to hide that spoke. So I gotta do is hit your weight right there. It's gonna spin that tire. Now look where the dot is. Make sure you clean it good. All right? If it's a black wheel, we're gonna use a black weight. Now, the weight's exactly where that machine wants it, right there in the middle of the dot. All right? Now, it's calling for a quarter ounce here, so let's go ahead and hit that. It's gonna rotate that tire. Of course, it wants that weight right there. So the key is making sure that wheel is very clean. That way those weights stick. All right, we got that one done. Let's spin it. All right, let's make sure we take them damn st. Now we got both weights placed on there. Let's go ahead and spin it and check. Make sure we're balanced. Lower the hood again. All right, that thing's spinning. We're gonna do this real time. That way you see it should call for zero weight. Should okay it out both of those ways. Yep, still spinning. Look, it's already okayed out. Load force is 21. That's how you perfectly balance a wheel, and that's how you clean it and make sure no weights are coming off. Your customer's gonna appreciate it.
