The Yellow Dot On The Tire Don’t Matter

A tire technician explains why the yellow dot on your tire doesn't actually matter for balancing. He shows how rotating the tire and measuring force can smooth out vibrations better than following the dot.
All right, so let's go over the yellow dot thing. So this is going to be hit or miss. So a lot of people say yellow dot to the valve stem gives you the better balance, correct? Well, let me show you something. So sometimes that works, and sometimes it doesn't. Well, in this case, it doesn't work. So let me show all you computer Internet experts right here what's going on. We got that thing lined up. Correct. Now, this thing has high road force. So. So what we're going to do, we're going to take it, spin this tire around. We're going to hit that. We're going to go to force magic, and it's going to tell us exactly where to mark that tire at. And we're going to bring that down to 10 pounds of force instead of 26, which is going to make a lot ride a lot better. So let's show you. All right, so here's the first line. You line it up with that. That laser right there. Now, we're going to mark the wheel. Let's go ahead and rotate it. So the machine is going to rotate that force. Now, we're going to mark that wheel exactly where it wants it at. Now we're gonna match that up with that up. And after this, we're gonna show you how those numbers come out. Right? Now let's go ahead and line that line up with the rim line right there. All right, let's go ahead and spin that around. Let's get that lined up. Right. There you go. Spin around a little bit at a time. Boom. Lined up. Now, this is where some of your vibrations coming out. Let me show you. So we're gonna lower that roller. You hear that right there? That's called air. So what happens is that air gets trapped in between that bead of the tire and the bead of the wheel, and it causes a lot of radial run out, which wheel hop, which is causing vibrations. So we're gonna massage that beat and get all that out of there. All right, so look where the valve stem is. Look where we had to move that yellow dot. It's way over there. Look how far it is. Now let's go ahead and show you the numbers. All right, we got that thing rolling. All right, that rolls about to come off. Let's go. Let's see what we got it down to. Remember, it was a 26. Now, we're only at eight pounds of force. Now, all you Internet experts, let me know about that dot. Is that right or wrong?
