A tire technician argues that tire plugs are dangerous temporary fixes that can fail suddenly. Plugs only seal the hole from the outside, leaving the tire's internal damage unrepaired, risking blowouts at highway speeds.
All right, let's talk about tire plugs and why you should not use these tire plugs. So for one, these things are just a temporary tire repair. Yes, they're coated in rubber, but the inside is made of yarn. Let me show you. For all you gen, all you Internet geniuses out there, you see this right here? That's an old tire plug I just pulled out of a tire. What's the end of that? That is yarn. What that is is where that rubber coated came off of there. That is yarn. It soaks up water. What does water do to steel belts? It rusts those belts out and can cause the tire to fail. So a lot of people saying, I've been plugging tires for years. I don't care how long you've been plugging tires. It may last for the lifetime of your tire. It may have it separate. You're rolling the dice, not me. And a lot of people say, well, I never had a problem. Well, it's not if you're going to have a problem, it's when you have a problem and then you got a problem with it. And then you got some people saying, oh, I've done this for 50 years. Well, I'm gonna tell you what, genius. I don't care if you've done it for 150 years. A tire plug is a temporary repair and it can cause your tire to fail. No if, ands or buts about it. If you don't like it, put whatever you want in the comments because I'm right.
