Mike Melton compares the Toyo Open Country AT3 (referred to as AT3) and the Falken AT4 (AT4), favoring the Toyo for wet traction, siping (biting edges), and snow performance while noting the Falken AT4 has a more attractive sidewall and was redesigned from the AT3 to increase mileage at the cost of some wet traction. He states both tires carry the 3-peak mountain snowflake rating but asserts the AT3 performs better in snow and wet conditions.

Lets compare the falcon at 4 compared to the Toyo open country at 3. Now one thing I like, that sidewall looks a lot better on that Falcon than it does that Toyo. They need to come up a little bit more aggressive on that Toyo. Now if you're not familiar with the falcon at 4 now they made the falcon at 3 and they discontinued it for the at 4. Now when they did that, they made this one have higher mileage. But the only thing with that, they reduced some of the wet traction. So when it comes to wet traction, the Toyo is definitely superior to wet traction than it is the AT4. Now here's the siping on the AT4. See how close it is compared to the AT3. A lot more open. So you're going to get a lot better biting edges on this tire on the Toyo compared to the Falcon. Now they still have this AS three peak mountain snow rating. But the only thing is the AT three was a lot better. They messed up when they made this tire because they took away some of the siphon. That's why this one reigns superior. This one here is also three peak mountain snow rating. It's a lot better than the snow conditions, wet conditions than that Falcon AT four. Now if Toyo, like I said, if they got that sidewall better looking, this tire is definitely a better tire than the Falcon AT four.
