TOYO RT PRO TIRE REVIEW

Mike Melton reviews the Toyo RT Pro, a hybrid tire between all-terrain and light-truck with aggressive side lugs and a 45,000-mile warranty. He demonstrates road-force balancing using a flange-plate kit and 1,200-lb load simulation, explaining why shops need this equipment to catch radial run-out issues that cause vibration complaints.

Today we're going to be going over the Toyo RT Pro. Now, this is a hybrid tire, and what that means is this tire is between an all terrain and a much terrain tire. So it gives you best of both worlds and right there in the middle. So if you come down here, let me show you. So this is really an aggressive tire. And what these side lugs are for is to when you're in a trail, right? So say you're in a trail and you're up against rocks, twigs, anything like that, it's going to help you get a little bit more biting edge to get you out of that situation, right. And then also this thing has a three plus sidewall, so it's a little bit more durable than a regular tire. So if you are in a situation where kind of putting some pressure or, you know, you're up against some rocks, you don't have to worry about really getting a puncture in the side of that sidewall. So it kind of resists that for you. And this tire comes with a 45,000 mile warranty. So a lot of people like to use these on the road because they like that aggressive look. But if you want to take it off road, this is definitely going to be a tire that you're going to want. It's going to get you in and out of any kind of situation that you're in, right? Because the way these tire treads are designed, so if you're in thick mud or anything like that, it's going to disperse and get that mud away from those lugs to help you get that biting edge that you need. Right? So as far as wet traction, now, if you're worried about wet traction, stay with an all terrain. Now, it does have good wet traction, but it's not as good as an all terrain. So if you're going from an all terrain tire to this rt, you're going to sacrifice a little bit of wet traction there. Now, a lot of people does ask
me, how quiet is this tire?
Now, it's not as loud as a muttering and it's not as quiet as an all terrain. So if you're worried about any kind of road noise at all, stick with an all terrain. If you don't mind the road noise a little bit and you want that aggressive look, definitely go with this tire right here. So now let's go ahead and put this thing on the balancer like we already have one now. And we're going to show you how good these things balance out.
So come on over.
All right. Right now, we already have everything set up on it. We got it set up in LT limits because it is an LT tire. So come over here, let me show you one thing.
And this is one thing a lot of shops don't do. So if you do have a shop,
you're going to want a flange plate kit.
What that does, it helps balance. It helps balance the wheels by the lug holes, right? So it's like you're balancing it on the vehicle itself.
So it's going to give you a better balance. And I'm, I'm going to link that in my description if you, if you're a shop and you want to grab one of those.
So right now we're going to road force balance the tire.
This is the absolute best way to balance the tire, is to road force it. The reason being is because when that roller comes down, it's going to put 1200 pounds of force on that tire, simulating it being driven on the vehicle itself. And we're going to check for anything that's going to cause a vibration before we put these tires on the truck. We're going to catch it.
So any shops that don't have this
type of equipment, they're just chasing their tail. They don't know if a tire is going to be out around a little bit, have a little bit too much radial run out, which causes vibrations.
We're going to be able to diagnose
that and fix that before it goes on the vehicle itself.
So right now we're going to go ahead.
We're not going to cut it, we're
not going to edit or anything. So we got it rolling right now. And here in just a second, that
roller is going to come down and it's going to put 1200 pounds of force on it.
Like I said, it's going to simulate it being driven on the vehicle itself. Right now it's testing.
It's diagnosing any kind of enormities in
the tire that could cause any kind of vibration. Right? It's coming off. So right now we're under the threshold. We're under 35. It's only calling for an ounce here and two and a half ounces here.
So right now this tire is not going to vibrate at all.
So say if this tire had a
higher road force, say of like 40, 50 or even 60. We've even seen it go up over 100 sometimes. And if you don't have this type of machine, you will have customers come back. And that's not a good day for you or the customer. So if you want a set of the Toyo tires or if you're a shop and you want a set of the flange plates, the link in the description, the link is going to be in the description for the flange plate.
