Mike Melton explains why he chose 265/70R17 Toyo Open Country AT3 tires for a Toyota 4Runner: they look good, ride smooth, handle snowy mountains, and rank among the quietest all-terrain tires available. Toyo and its sister brand Nitto cost more because they're used in racing and last longer.

Here's the Toyota 4Runner that we did today. So we got up some Fuel Wheels on there, and then we got the 265/70R17 Toyo Open Country AT3s. Now, why did they choose the AT3? One, they like the way they look. Two, they like the way they ride. Three, they go up in the mountains sometimes, so when it's time for snow, they can handle that also. Now, they didn't want nothing crazy aggressive on the sidewall like the AMTs, so they went with this tire too. Now for the top 2 quietest tires on the market right now as far as all-terrain is going to be the Toyo AT3 and the Nitto G3. And of course somebody's gonna say, man, they're just made by the same company. Well, they are, right? One level is upstairs, one level's downstairs. That's how it works. But I'm gonna tell you, when it comes to quality, you cannot beat a Toyo or you cannot beat a Nitto as far as quality any day. Now some people say, well, Nitto and, and Toyo is just overpriced, man. They take these these things to the damn wringer. They race with these things. I mean, these things are performance tires. They're not just tires to be made on the road.
