This is a YouTube video titled "Why Leadership Sucks In The Automotive Industry" created in August 2025. It features Mike Melton delivering a monologue on leadership principles in the automotive sector, emphasizing leading by example, vision, accountability, empowerment, and growth mindset. The content is a single-speaker talk focused on improving leadership practices.
So leadership in the automotive world basically sucks. Let me show you how to fix that. One, you always got to lead by example. Listen, if you can't lead yourself, how in the hell you expect to lead others? So you got to be disciplined. You got to have high standards. You got to have a good work ethic. Listen, if you don't have none of those, how in the hell you expect your people to? 2 is the vision, right? So you got to communicate that vision with your team and see where your team actually fits into that vision. Three is accountability. Now, you got to holding people accountable, right? So you got to call them out when stuff ain't going right, and vice versa. They got to be able to call you out as a leader if stuff ain't going right. If what you're doing doesn't matter. It goes both ways. Now, the thing is, accountability isn't micromanaging. Accountability is setting high standards for everybody, including yourself. Four is empowerment. Listen, empowering your people is huge when it starts to become a leader, right? So you got to show these guys exactly how to do stuff. Empower them to make their own decisions. That's how you're going to grow your company. You can't just tell people. You have to show them and teach them. Five is growth mindset. Listen, if you're not growing, your shop ain't going to grow. That's point blank, period. So a lot of times I tell my people, I want you to.
