Season 1 (Episode 10): A Woman of God vs. A Daughter of God

In this solo‑hosted episode of the "Pain, Passion, and Purpose" podcast, Shakeela Torres opens with a brief promotion of her Empowered Purpose Academy and a paid podcast community, inviting listeners to subscribe for additional resources, mentorship, and courses. She then shifts to the core teaching: the distinction between being labeled a "woman (or man) of faith" and being called a "daughter (or son) of God." Drawing from a personal experience while driving in silence, she recounts hearing God say there is a difference between these identities. A "woman of faith" is portrayed as strong, anointed, and purpose‑driven, while a "daughter of God" invites vulnerability, honesty about brokenness, and a child‑like dependence on God. Torres, a Christian counselor, emphasizes that clients often wear a metaphorical cape to appear powerful, but true healing comes when they remove the cape, become transparent, and invite the Holy Spirit into therapy. She offers practical counsel: speak openly to God, invite Him into struggles, and recognize that God meets us in dreams, nature, music, and everyday moments. The episode concludes with a call to embrace vulnerability, avoid pride, and allow the enemy’s grip to loosen through honest confession, followed by standard podcast sign‑off reminders to rate, subscribe, and share.

Hey you guys, welcome back. So today I'm going to talk about a woman of God or woman of faith versus a daughter of God. You guys, this blessed me so much, and so I wanted to share this with you guys. So, you know, in the church community, we hear this, this term a lot, you know, he's a man of God, a man of faith, he's a woman, woman of God, a woman of faith. And then you hear, you know, I'm a daughter of God, but you don't really hear, to me, the term daughter of God or son of God enough to me. And to be honest, whenever I hear these different terms, they definitely give me a different feeling. And so probably about 2 or 3 weeks ago, I was driving, just meditating. I love driving because, you guys, when I'm driving, I, I definitely have the space to think more and the space to hear God even the more because I don't have any distractions going on. I don't have my kids calling my name, you know, I don't have my phone ringing. If it is ringing, I have, you know, silence. Sometimes I just drive in this pure silence and just listen to what God wants to say, or I just talk to him and just process what I'm thinking and what I'm feeling. And so this particular day I was driving and I heard the Lord say, "Daughter, there's a difference between being a woman of faith and a daughter of God." So when you hear woman of faith, you think about this powerful, strong woman who is anointed on fire for God, that's walking in her purpose, that can pray the house down, that can just do all these wonderful things for the kingdom, right? That's what I think about, okay? And I strive to be those things, okay? To walk in my purpose, to do what has God called me to do, to pray for people, to do— just, just do my part, right? But when I hear the term daughter of God, it puts me in a place of vulnerability. It puts me in a place where I feel like a little girl. It puts me in a place where I'm like, God, you know what, I don't have it all together. God, I'm broken in this area. Father, can you please heal my heart? Father, I need you to just cover me right now. Father, I just need for you to just show up for me today because today I'm tired. Today I'm exhausted. Father, I need you. Father, I need you more than You need me, right? And so it puts you in a space, in a different headspace. And because I am a Christian counselor, you know, so many Christians that I've counseled before in the past, especially women, sometimes they show up with a cape on. And I'm like, listen, sis, listen, you don't have to show up to therapy to prove to me that you are a woman of God. You don't have to come to therapy to prove to me that you have it all together. You in therapy for a reason, sis. So take the cape off, just be vulnerable. And the thing about it is, when you're being vulnerable in session, technically you're being vulnerable to Holy Spirit, because I'm seeking God for instructions. I'm seeking God for what it is that you need from me and what I need to do as far as strategy to help you to heal on purpose. So don't show up to therapy, you know, being mighty and trying to be powerful and prove something. Show up with your heart, show up with your womb, show up with what's really bothering you. But most importantly, do that with God. Like, show up to him with everything you got. I remember one time, um, one of my friends in Christ, you know, She said, it's really hard for me to cry to God because when I start crying or I start becoming too vulnerable, I feel like I'm a little girl. I'm like, that's the whole point. That is the whole point, is for you to be able to show up to God and be vulnerable and transparent because he already know what's bothering you. He can't help you if you don't let him in. God cannot heal you if you do not allow him to come in. God is a pure gentleman. He is waiting for his sons and his daughters to just be vulnerable with him. I tell my clients all the time, you know, when you struggling in the area and you cannot like seem to get past that thing, invite God into the situation. Invite God into it. God, you know what, I don't know what I'm doing. God, you know what, I don't have all the answers. God, whatever it is, and invite him into it so he can show up, so he can deal with your heart and minister to you, right? And so that's the difference between a man of faith, a woman of faith, or a daughter of God or a son of God. God loves his children us so much, and he's better than a father, better than a mother. I can attest to that right here, right now. I did not have the best mom. I did not have the best father. You know, God rest my mom's soul. God bless my father. But God has truly been everything to me and then some. And I know it's because I allow myself to just be, to be vulnerable. And I admit, sometimes I can get busy, and I'm, you know, running and doing all these great things for him that I forget sometimes. Shakeeta Torres, you know, just sit still and just be vulnerable with God and just let God know what's on your heart, whatever is bothering you. And I promise you, he'll speak to you. He'll speak to you whether it's through a dream, whether it's through other people, in his word. He'll speak to you. He'll speak to you while you're driving. He'll speak to you through— speak to you through children, through nature, through music. Oh gosh, God speaks in so many different ways. Okay, so I hope that this encourages you today to just be. It's okay to be vulnerable. To me, transparency is so powerful. Vulnerability is so powerful because really, whatever we're trying to be, this person, it like causes us to, to like develop pride, and it allows the enemy to come in because we have pride. To come in and puff you up and wreak havoc in your life because you're keeping so much stuff bottled in. But whenever we put a voice to it and we become vulnerable to God and trusted counsel, then that allows the enemy to like lose his grip on you. Like, that is— I cannot tell you how many times I had clients say, you know, I want to really get this off my chest. And when they did, it's like, oh my God, I feel like a A burden is off my chest because I've never told anybody that before, ever in my entire life. And the enemy can no longer torment them on that anymore. So get— go ahead, my sister, go ahead, my brother, be vulnerable with God, be transparent with him. You do not have to put on a show for God. Talk to you next time. Bye.
