Season 1 (Episode 24): The Names of God: Entering into Prayer with Authority: Bonus Episode!

In this solo podcast episode, host Shakeeta Torres opens with a promotion of her Empowered Purpose Academy and paid podcast community, then shares a personal 2013 story about a woman of God who revealed that invoking God’s many biblical names can quickly capture His attention in prayer. She references the book The Names of God: Exploring God’s Character, outlines several key names and attributes (e.g., Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Nissi, El Shaddai, Elohim, Emmanuel), and demonstrates a prayer practice that strings these names together to invite God’s presence and power. She recounts a client’s testimony of transformed prayer, encourages listeners to study the book and apply the names, and ends with multiple calls to action for subscription, reviews, and further study.

Hey you guys, welcome back to a new episode of my podcast. I am so excited about today's episode. Um, as you can see in the title, it's about prayer, it's about the many different names of God. And so I want to do a short teaching about, um, about this topic. So, you know, you guys always have a story for something, or how I receive revelation is always a story behind it. It's always, um, something that triggers revelation, right? So for me, um, back in— I think it was 2013, I believe— I was going through a season where, you know, I was asking God to like elevate me because, you know, I had been in prayer a lot and I had been fasting a lot, and I was like really being very intentional about building my relationship with him. But you ever get that feeling like, okay, God, there's more, there's another level that I want to get to, um, in you and understanding you and all that good stuff. And so, um, I had met this woman of God who lived like down the street from my house, and I had been staying at the house we were living at that time for maybe about a year, and I'd never seen her before. Then one day she come knock on my door and said, the Lord told me to come see your house. I'm like, oh my gosh, wow. So she came to my house and we talked, and you know, she was sharing with me about what she does in ministry. I was sharing with her about me and what I know God's calling me to do, but I knew it was a process and all that good stuff. And so she was talking to me about prayer, and, um, she said, you want to know what the fastest way is to get God's attention, or the fastest way to really, um, go straight into prayer without having to work extra hard? I said, yeah, what is it? And she said, calling him by his name. I said, okay. I said, well, I do. I call him Father, you know, I call him, you know, Jesus, and all this good stuff. And she said, yeah, but God has many names. And I have heard that before. Of course, you read in scripture, you can see all throughout the Bible, Old Testament especially, in New Testament, you know, they call God many different names, right? And she said, God can be whoever you need for him to be. She said, so wherever you go into a prayer and you're approaching his throne boldly, and you're going to him with your heart open and your mind open, no matter how you feel— if you come in and you like frustrated, or you had a long day, or you're happy, whatever you're feeling, you go into prayer and you begin to call God by his many names, and that gets his attention really fast, and the power of God will drop on you so fast. And I said, oh wow. So she had this book that she, um, had let me borrow called The Names of God: Exploring God's Character. And I have the book right here in front of me, and I want to look at the author, uh It doesn't really have an author in here, you guys, who wrote this book, but, um, I'm gonna link the book in the description box for you so you can look at it on Amazon. Now, of course, you can go and research the names of God, and I did that before, but this book, to me, it really, um, breaks down the names of God, and it goes over— let me see— 44 names of God. And then part 2 is 30 attributes of God, and the third is the promises of God. So I'm gonna— listen, we about to practice this thing right now in the name of Jesus, okay? And so, oh y'all, this is so good. And what triggered me to do an episode on this is because a few weeks ago, um, I have a client, I've been working with her for a while now, and you know She's amazing. And I can't remember how we got on the topic. Oh yeah, I remember. She was having some, you know, stuff going on with her daughter and her husband. And she said, I'm tired of the enemy, you know, trying to come in and cause havoc in my daughter's life or make my husband feel a certain way. You know, we all go through these different things in life, okay? It's life, right? I said, you know what? She told me she's pretty— you know, she was telling me how she was praying and how she was asking God to help her and to, you know, and all this good stuff. But she felt like she really wasn't moving the needle in a sense. I said, no, you're moving the needle. I said, but in your times of distress, let me teach you how to really get God's attention quickly, um, to move right there on your behalf and to move your heart and invite his presence in. So whenever the enemy begins to act crazy, okay, use your authority. And so I told her about the names of God, and she ended up finding a teaching on it, um, with Tony Evans, I believe. I'm not sure she said it was free or if she found it on YouTube or what. I don't know. Even YouTube it. You can YouTube the names of God and how powerful it is. But I love this book though, okay? So I'm gonna read some of these names to you, okay? But by the way, she tried it and she said, Shakeeta Torres, it has definitely transformed my whole prayer and it definitely has caused God to drop down in my home like a flood. And so I want you guys if you're listening, to try this. No matter how you feel, no matter what you're going through, no matter the situation, begin to use God's name. So one of the names is like Jehovah Jireh. He is a provider. You got Jehovah Nissi. He's the God of Undefeat. And in the book of Exodus, it talks about Jehovah Nissi, you know, God, um, he is our banner. Which means victory, right? So victory, undefeated, that's what that comes from. Um, you are Yahweh, you know, he makes that which is made. He is El Shaddai, he's God Almighty. Um, he's a potter, you know, I'm the clay, you know, I'm the Most High. Listen, Elohim, he's the, he's the Living God, you know, Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. Um, he's the Messiah, the promised deliverer of of Jewish, of the Jewish nation. And so for me, you know, when I'm going into prayer at times, no matter how I'm feeling, I, I just— what I do when I go into prayer, I'm like, Father, I bless your name, God, because you're holy, God, because God, you are who you say you are, God. God, you're Jehovah Nissi, you're Jehovah Jireh, God. God, you're the one that sees me, God. You're the one that knows me, God. God, you are the Morning Star, God. You are my rock, God. You are the Holy Spirit, Lord. You are the living water, God. You are the gentle whisper, God. God, you are the door. Thank you, God. You um, the Lion of Judah, Lord God. You are the Prince of Peace, God. Be my peace right now, God. God, you are the Word. You are the Rose of Sharon, God. You are holy, God. You are the Lamb, my God. You are Creator. You are Abba Father. Father, you are the Great Great Shepherd. You are the author and the finisher of my faith, God. God, you are like an eagle, Father God. You are my advocate, Lord God. God, you are faithful, God. You are Emmanuel. And I just begin to just say those things, and I just like push right into prayer, right? It's like his presence just fall on me like a cloak, okay? And you just begin to pray and invite God in and that— to your mind and to your heart and ask him just to, to speak to you as you pray and let Holy Spirit take over you. And God will begin to reveal things to you. He will begin to encourage you. He will begin to come see about you and your situation and what's going on. So I encourage you to try this. Try this. It's so powerful because, you know, he's a mediator. Um, he He's the Lamb of God. He's a Good Shepherd. That he is our hope. He is our anchor, okay? He is the resurrection, my God. He is the Bread of Life. He is Savior. He is our Lord. He is love. He is peace. He is forgiveness. He is righteousness. And of course, you know, um, these names are in, you know, the Hebrew and Greek languages, and It's beautiful. It all means something. So God can be whatever you need him to be. But if you go and you study these things and you write it on the tablets of your heart, my God, it, it, oh, it, oh, listen, it does something to me, and I hope it does something for you as well. So I will attach this book, um, and the description box, and I encourage you, go, go, go study it, read it for yourself. It's very detailed. It has like 2 or 3 pages on every single, um, name of God and his attributes and his promises. So go back, um, and read it. So thank you so much for listening. That's all I have for today. I hope that you are encouraged. Use God's many names. You are a believer, you are strong, you have authority, um, and God wants to come and see about you. Until next time. Bye-bye.
