The #1 Mistake Christian Life Coaches Are Making in Their Business

So hey, you guys, welcome. I wanted to make sure that the YouTube channel was, um, picking up the signal really well because last time I went live, um, StreamYard was giving me a hard time and it kept dropping the call. So we are good to go. It looks so good. Okay, so, um, with that being said, you all, welcome. Thank you for attending this live webinar, um, called The Number One Mistake that you can make in your business as a Christian life coach. And I have a very, very special guest on. Her name is Miss D'Alicia Artis. She is the Money Strategist, okay? And you guys should already know who I am. I'm Shakeeta Torres, but I'm also now Anointed Coach trademark business coach and mentor, okay? So I also train, um, coaches to coach, okay? And also, um, you know, help them to rebuild their ministries, rebuild, um, build their businesses, and help them to, um, to relaunch into what God's calling them into. So with that being said, um, many of you guys may not know this, but Miss Art is actually my bookkeeper, okay? And she has been now for many, many months now. And so in working with her, you all, she has truly helped me to pivot, okay? Um, this year I said, God, I have got to go further in my ministry, my business, right? Especially business. Because I've worked so hard. I've been building for years, okay? Literally for years. But not only that, she's also my friend. We've been friends since we was little kids, and we had, you know, a season of where she was, you know, doing her own thing, I was doing my own thing. And then how many has it been since, since God like reconnected us?

Um, it's been about 4 or 5 years. 4 or 5 years, yes.

And it began, I remember I was on my personal, um, Facebook page then. And, um, I saw her, I'm like, oh wow, she doing some money stuff. I'm like, okay, look at her, right? And so I was scrolling, the Lord began to minister to me about her. And so I had to pull over, okay, in my vehicle and give her everything that God gave me for her. And ever since then we have been friends, okay? And so she had been watching me grow, I had been watching her grow, and our fruit speaks for itself. She has so many, oh my God, stories of people having breakthrough in their income and finances. You guys. You know, I have— same with me when it comes to me coaching and counseling, same thing, right? But there comes a point where God wants to take you higher, and I, I felt that and I knew that. And so the Lord told me the beginning of the year, he said, connect with her, go ahead and hire her, because my goal was always to hire her as my bookkeeper. But he said, go ahead and hire her now. And so I was obedient and I hired her, y'all. And so earlier this year, um, I had my first 5-figure launch because of her. Yes! Yes, anything you want to say before we get started, Miss Artis?

Yes, first of all, I want to say greetings everyone. I'm excited to be here. Thank you so much, Shakeeta Torres, for allowing me the opportunity to be with you, um, and also to partner with you. Ministry and business is such an honor. Um, so yes, we have been able to reconnect and God has just brought tremendous fruit in our partnership. And so, um, as you stated, you reached out to me, there was something different that you were looking for in this year. And you reach out to me on the, of the account of accounting and bookkeeping. And one of the things that, um, he spoke to me was like, hey, offer her strategy, right, every quarter, which is something that we don't typically do because when you have a bookkeeper, that's all they're doing. They're doing the bookkeeping and they're producing your reports. Um, not often do you see someone kind of going over the reports or asking you about your business or— yes, the money, how can you make more money. And so that was one of the things he wanted us to do. So we began to operate in that. So as we began to meet outside of doing the bookkeeping and doing the strategy, we were able to kind of partner with you, reveal some things and show you some things that you could do in the area of your business that ultimately, like you said, set you up to be able to have that 5-figure line. So we are honored. I'm honored. Story, your testimony. As you stated, I typically work with people as it relates to individuals and families. On the personal side of their finances. So taking them from financial rescue to financial freedom. Um, and for our entrepreneurs and our business owners, what we're doing is, um, allowing them to gain clarity and structure in the area of their business so they can move from clarity to cash, right? Okay. Business can begin to produce the results that they want to see. So yes, I'm excited.

Yes, me too. Thank you so much. Oh my gosh, you all. Okay, so with that being said, I have a question for you.

Okay.

What is the number one mistake that, as far as our business, we're making? And as far as life coaching, what's the number one mistake we're making?

Yeah, one of the, the biggest mistakes that I see with business owners, especially, you know, with Christian business owners, is that we are mixing business and ministry. There is no clear definition, right? What's a ministry and what's business? Yeah, and the problem with that, because when it comes to ministry, the main goal of that is impact, right? It's impact. Sometimes you do want to see growth, right? But the focus is not on the numbers. But when it comes to business, business is— there is an exchange, right? You're offering services or product in the marketplace, and they're supposed to be an exchange. You're supposed to bring in revenue, but there's also supposed to be a profit. And if we go into a business with a ministry mindset, you're going to see the impact because the grace is there, right? You're going to see lives change. But as you the business owner, you're not going to experience much fruit. Why? Because you're not in alignment. And so one of the things we have to do, right, is make sure that we're clear on our assignment— what's ministry and what's business— so that we have the right expectations. Because it can produce stress, disappointment, where we're not clearly aligned, um, in business and ministry.

Yes, you're right. So I see oftentimes in Facebook groups and people I talk to, oh, I just want to help people. Oh, I just want to, you know, be able to help God's people. Yes, you can do that and still make a profit. And I know that, you know, it's still this myth that if you are professing to be a Christian and your marketing as such, that you should not be making money or profiting off of God. But that's not the case at all. If you invested in your training, if you invested in resource, if you have the education and all these different things in place, right, you're paying for, and you have this structure in your business, that's not, that's not true.

Absolutely not. And that's where the clarity comes in, and that's where we're able to kind of come in and help our clients, because you need to be able to discern There are some situations where you are sharing your gift and you're sowing into others, and that is purely ministry. And this is where you have to have clarity on your assignment. Okay, what is the ministry? What am I giving freely, right? What am I showing up? And maybe it's sowing the word, maybe it's doing Bible studies. That's ministry. And you may give people the opportunity to sow into your ministry, sow into that word as they receive. You know, Paul talks about that. You know, he talks about, you know, you being able to receive Spiritual things, is it wrong for me to receive natural things for you? So that's sowing and, um, finances. That's a part of God's system of increase. Luke 6:38, give and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down. That's God's system of increase. So, and also when it comes to the gospel, yes, the gospel itself is free, but the means in which we distribute the gospel, that's not free. That's not free at all, right? And maybe, you know, and then, but when it comes to the business, right, there has to be a profit there. Because if you are called, right, to ministry, right, and that is your leg, everyone has to discern, am I called to full-time ministry? And you may be called to full-time ministry, but that also may mean you must have a thriving business behind you so that you can show up freely in the area of your— and you can give freely, right? And so, um, I, I think The idea of you not making money, like Deuteronomy 8:18, God said, I give you the power to get wealth.

Yes.

Why would he give me the power and the ability to do something that he didn't want me to have?

Right.

That makes sense. And I think one of the first steps, um, and this is a part of it, is dealing with that money mindset, right? The way that we think about money. Because many of us, we have mindsets that are related to how we grew up, how we saw our parents. And if we're going to do something different, then we have to think a different way. And a part of that, especially for believers and Christians, we have to renew our mind to God's word and God's way. We cannot be intimidated. We cannot be afraid, you know, when it comes to finances. And even if you don't know, um, this is why we always encourage our clients and we make sure that they get the financial education, right? When you work with me, one of the things I say, you can show me the numbers and I can show you a way out, right? Yes. But if your mindset is not renewed, then what? You're gonna find yourself back in the same situation that we were able to help you get out of. Exactly. It's all about renewing that mind, being clear on your assignment. What is ministry? What is business? What are my services? What are my products? Um, so that way there's a flow, because what you're pouring out should be pouring back into you if you're in alignment and you're clear on what you're supposed to be doing.

Yes. And so for a person who's listening to this now, coming back to watch the replay, and they're saying, well, how do I determine what's business and what's ministry, what would you say to them?

Um, well, one thing, you want to make sure that you're praying, right? You take it before the Lord. Um, Jeremiah 33:3, powerful scripture. I pray every single day. He says, call unto me and I will answer. And he says, I will show you and even tell you things to come. He says, I'll also reveal things that are hidden, that have been combined, and I also reveal those things that you don't know, you don't understand, and you cannot distinguish. That means there is no way for me not to know. If I don't know something, that means I have not spent enough time alone with him in prayer to get the answer, because he says, oh, I will answer. So that's the first thing. And then in prayer, I talked about this previously, whenever we pray, God sends help. He sends help. God is not going to come down himself and help you in the sense of doing it for you, right? He told Moses, he said, I've come down to deliver my people because there's a cry. But then he also said, come, because I'm sending you. So whenever we're at that place where we feel like we don't have clarity, that oftentimes heaven is going to reveal someone that we need to connect to. Just like what happened with, uh, Lady Shakeeta, right? This is Coach Shakeeta. He told her, reach out and connect to her because she is going to be able to help you and partner, not take the place, you know, the Holy Spirit. I say to you often, I understand my role in that birthing room. I'm not the doctor, but I am the midwife, right? Right there to assist. And so with bringing that clarity, partner with someone to say, hey, that has a prayer like themselves, right? Or and say, hey, how can we— which is what we did, we cleared everything out, right? How do we clarity here? There's no way for me to be confused and not knowing which direction to go in, right? And so you partner with someone, um, that can give you that clarity, give you that insight And then ultimately you still take that back to the Lord because everyone has their own assignment. Again, that's the midwife to walk with you and to help bring, you know, help you bring, you know, bring that thing to pass. But it's not to dictate, right? What do you do? The Holy Spirit's supposed to be involved in that. So that's what I was saying. Make sure you're praying, do the spiritual thing, right? But don't get caught up in doing the spiritual. God is going to reveal the help, but one thing we have to do is we have to respond to the help that he reveals. Yes, we have to respond. Imagine Moses going to Israel saying that God told me to come and help and to deliver and to bring you out, and they don't respond. They didn't show up to the meetings, right? He said, let's go. They didn't move.

Wow.

The help— you have to make sure that you do your part to receive, right?

And oftentimes that requires an investment, especially when it comes to your business. And so, you know, I know you've seen it before, people, they're hesitant about investing in what God is showing them clearly. Hey, go to this person, but it's going to cost cost you, right? Nowhere in scripture does it say that everything you're supposed to, supposed to receive and get help from, especially within a Christian, you know, arena, it should be free. Who said, who said that?

I love that you brought that up. Uh, yeah, I had to learn, even as I have been, you know, in the personal finance space for over 9 years, but there were times out of my heart, right, and out of my love and knowing what God has brought me through and how I've been able to see his power in my finances. There are people that I would offer like, hey, you know, here's this ebook, here's this class, I want you to check it out completely free. But they would never partake in it. See, transformation does not happen until we make an investment. It does not happen until we make an investment. And so it's going to require something from us. One thing that the Holy Spirit revealed to me He says the anointing that's on your life and on your life and on all of our lives, it requires honor. And a part of honor, there is an exchange. Yes, yes, valuable to you. To give you an example, I had a client today who just, um, signed up with us. And I remember speaking with her and she was hesitant about— she knew that our program could help her get it to the next level. She said, this is an answer prayer. Follow me. She said, this is an answer prayer because this is something I have been praying about. I said, okay, this is the investment to work with us. And she was a little shaky when it came to the finances. And she said, you know what, I was thinking about the investment, but I was reminded that there was some money that I had saved and I had earmarked that, that money for Christmas. But she said, I feel the Holy Spirit prompted me that this is the investment I need to make in this program. So mind you, she said that she didn't think how— she didn't know how she was gonna make the investment, but the money was there, but she had an earmark for something else. Yeah, but she obeyed the Holy Spirit. She said, I'm going to make this investment. She made the deposit. She sent me a message today stating that she just got out of a meeting with her supervisor. Not only, um, they're going to give her an additional project to work on and she's going to be able to work overtime. Yes, increase was on the other side. I say that with my clients all the time.

Obedience, the obedience, increase.

All the other— what you have, if it's not enough, is seed. Don't eat it because you're going to remain the same place. You got to make sure that you have that seed, right? When the Holy Spirit tells you to invest here, it's seed because you're going to receive something more. And so that increase was already available to her. She had to get into alignment. She had to get into partnership. She had to get connected to the person that God had revealed that this is where your help— this is where my help to you is going to flow through this person. And now she's walking in increase. She said this fourth quarter, as we begin to work together, those are some of the things that we have to— don't hold back because it's going to keep you where you are. Make sure you're obedient because it is going to require an exchange.

Yes, absolutely. I'm— I was listening, I was happy. I'm okay, God, because you know, you know me, I'm obedient, right? And not only that, not— and for me, honor is a big thing. So just because you're my friend, it doesn't mean that I want you to work, you know, to give me free services. I never expected that from you. Um, whenever we, um, come together and we meet, whenever you're speaking, I know you're coming from a great place. And so even though my flesh want to act up a little bit, I'm like Girl, but the results—

we got the results, right?

But I yielded. I still surrendered, you know, in that moment. And I listen and I apply the things that God was speaking. Because what would happen was, you know, you will bring up an area, right? And then I'm like, huh? But then God will begin to speak to me and just give me so much more strategy, instructions, clarity about what you're saying on a deeper level. Because he knows us, right? And, you know, that requires, you know, dying to your flesh and doing something different that you normally don't do. And I always say this too, we all have blind spots. None of us know everything. None of us can dot every T and— I mean, dot every I and cross every T, right, all the time. And so I've always said that even about myself. So, oh my God, I welcome correction. I welcome, you know, what you have for me because I want to be better. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

I love that. Um, one of the things I always say with our clients The first step to receiving help is operating in humility. You know, when I was going through that unexpected divorce, didn't have a job, didn't have anything saved, and now I had a toddler to take care of and I didn't know how to manage money. Yeah, I had to go to God for help, right? But I had to humble myself and say what I think I know, I really don't know, because if I knew it, it would be producing the results that I want to see. Exactly, exactly. You don't know, right? So, and what I say to my clients is I'm not here doing this work in my— I didn't just decide one day I'm going to go help people, you know, in the area. I went through my own process, right? I was able to learn how to apply the word of God and practical administration to get my own results. And then out of that was birthed an assignment. Not only an assignment, but when you're in assignment, there's a grace on me. I said this previously when we were talking. The Holy Spirit revealed to me, whoever is connected to you, there's nobody who you, you will experience financial breakthrough That's a part of the mantle and the grace that is on my life, whether it's business or personal. You cannot be connected to me. You cannot make so as it relates to making exchange business-wise for our services and your finances remain the same, right? There's no way. So, you know, a part of that is knowing that, you know, I'm backed. You're backed when you're doing this work, right? You're going to get results from that. And so a part of that is saying, God, I want to receive your help, and whoever you send and you highlight as the help, then that's the person that I'm going to— now I'm not— you wisdom, of course, because you said something so key, because we're both connected to the Holy Spirit. I was able to say something that he was revealing that maybe you couldn't hear, but he was able to go back and to confirm what I was saying, that it was him. Again, that's where me being the midwife and not the doctor, right? Midwife. And it's coming along the side. And so it starts with humility and being in a place where you can receive. But that only comes when you're really ready for change. Yep, right. You're— you, you really have got to come to the end of yourself, because if you're not submitted to him, there's no way you're going to be submitted to what he's speaking through me. You have to place where you're ready.

Oh, so good, sis. So, so good. You guys hear that? Listen, how she speaks now live, how she speak to me when we in our sessions It's the same exact way.

And this is me, like, oh my God, I have my pen and my paper ready.

And I'm like, we recording this? And she was like, yeah girl, we record. I know God about to speak, okay? So I was like, let's go.

It's one of the areas that the enemy will attack you the most.

Yes.

And because of what I've gone through, because of what I've seen, because of all the clients that we've been able to impact We come in this thing with authority. Like, we understand what we're dealing with. There is opposition when you're starting that business as an entrepreneur. There is a different level of opposition because when you are increased, right, when you're making a certain amount of income, then you are advancing God's kingdom. That's not something the enemy wants. He's going to try to make you think, oh, there's something wrong with business, and everything should be for free. And no, no, no. Yes, there's a part— even when you work with me on the inside of business and we're doing bookkeeping and we're doing strategy, you still won't get ministry.

Yep.

Because yes, I have my degrees and I have my skill sets, I have my expertise, but more importantly, I have the Holy Ghost. Okay.

Yes.

And that's where the power comes, and that's where the transformation comes. And so you have to come in this thing with authority, knowing who we are, but also make sure we're connected to the right people that I know where I have been called to reign and rule. I know the area, and it's in the financial arena. So make sure that you're partnering with someone that is strong in the area that you're— you may need to grow in, you may need to learn in. That's okay, and that's how we advance the kingdom.

I agree. Uh, what's coming to me too, also to touch on, is, you know, oftentimes, you know, we see that, you know, people are anointed, we're anointed, we're called by God, but we're lacking structure and systems that can hinder your business too. So you can pray the house down, intercede, teach the house, whatever you called to do, right, ministry related, and you bring that over into your business, right? Because it's a part of who you are. It's a part of my DNA. I can't help but to do that, and you can't either, right, when God is leading us to. But you still got to have that structure and that system in place. And so if you don't have that, you do need to outsource that and hire help to help you to get that in place so you can like thrive in the area of business.

Yes. One thing I will say, you guys, you're gonna have to understand the duality of your assignment. Um, and this is something that has been, you know, made even clearer to me, you know, as I move forward in my own process, my own journey, is that I'm called to both spaces. Yes, I can pray, I can, you know, um, preach, you know, prophesy, do all the things, okay, and speak and communicate. But I'm also called to be a fierce businesswoman.

Exactly right.

Call, um, to have structure in the area of the marketplace where I'm able to go out and I'm able to serve and impact and empower others, but also make sure there's a return, right? Make sure that I am operating, you know, as it relates on the back end with my service, right? Because it's one thing to present yourself well and get the client, but you want to make sure that they have a good customer experience behind the scenes. You want to make sure that, that, that part of your business is established as well. So understanding the duality of your assignment and also know that you can do both. There's nothing wrong. There's nothing wrong with having a business. There's nothing wrong, uh, with making income even if you're doing your business on the side. It's okay, right, to bring in that additional income because that's bringing value for you and for your family and also for the kingdom of God as well.

Yeah, and having those boundaries in place is so important. So, so important. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I'm excited for, um, everything God is doing this season. Um, I'm not going to rehash the whole entire word, but you know, for those of you who have been like, who have been like, um, follow me for a while now, know that I've been speaking, you know, God has been speaking to me about handing out fresh blueprints and fresh strategies and, you know, helping us to like reposition for this next wave of harvest. And that goes also for Christian life coaches. What I've seen is so many have either— they have failed to launch, they have not launched their business yet out of fear, out of not having the appropriate help, out of whatever thing they have going on. And we'll talk about that more on a different, different live, right? And then we have some who have launched, but God is calling them to restructure some things, to get different things in order, right? And he does want you to get paid for your time and your expertise. Okay, everything once again does not have to be free if you're calling yourself a Christian life coach. Um, and so that's what God has called me to do, you know, um, in this season and moving forward, is to truly help, you know, business coaches, life coaches, to truly like get their stuff in order. Okay. Uh, no, I think that's phenomenal. You're absolutely right. Listen, the foundation was already there. Okay, foundation already there, and I'm excited about what you're going— what you're doing in the season and how you're equipping, um, life coaches. And I just want to encourage them to don't stay stuck, connect with Shakeeta. Um, it's gonna— you have some amazing things coming. And you know, that's just the beginning. You know, you're already working out.

When you met the other day to go over this program, listen, what did God tell me? Believe for more.

You know what? And a part of that is being prepared for more.

Yes.

Oftentimes we desire more, but we don't have the structure, right? The confidence. All the things that you're going to be teaching, in order— you have to be prepared for more.

Yes.

That's why we see so much breakthrough with our clients.

Is—

I tell my clients all the time, we are God's blueprint in the earth. I didn't make this up. We are his blueprint. And so in connecting, right, what you're doing is you're saying, all right, I want to be in alignment with your process. So Send the increase, send the raise. Yes, yes, yes.

You challenging me, you challenge my thinking, you made me look at my systems and like, okay, Shakeeta, you doing all this work for what now? We not doing that no more. And this is not coming from a like— because I hear people say, oh, I know my value, I'mma charge this amount. That's not where we coming from either. Now we know our value, we definitely do, but can your work and your fruit back it up? You know what I'm saying?
