Hello everyone, my name is Shakeeta Torres and welcome to my YouTube channel. Today I'm going to discuss the topic of boundaries. Boundaries, boundaries, boundaries, boundaries. As a therapist, the number one thing I see that my clients have a hard time setting is boundaries. And honestly, that's almost like a, a spearhead of the many issues and challenges they have that come along with not having boundaries. It's so many, you guys. When you really think about life and things you've been through, not everything's— not everything, but most things, um, of being hurt and disappointed, a lot of times it comes from lack of, um, of boundaries. So first, let me tell you what the definition of a boundary is according to Google, okay? Personal boundaries are guidelines, rules, or limits that a person creates to identify reasonable, safe, and permissible ways for other people to behave towards them and how they will respond when someone else passes those limits. Says all healthy relationships have boundaries, and it's about honoring you. Now, a boundary is not being selfish. A boundary is protecting yourself from being violated and protecting yourself from burnout, from hurt. I'm not saying be, um, controlling and manipulative, uh, not allowing people to get close to you. That's not what I'm saying. But a boundary is something that protects you from being hurt. You're guarding your heart, you're guarding yourself, and you're not allowing yourself to be ran over by people. That's what a boundary is in relationships. Okay, so I'm going to discuss topics about boundaries in, um, ministry, in relationships, friendships, parents, family, all those things that boundaries kind of affect how we interact in those areas.
