EPISODE 12: WHEN GOD SAYS GO BUT YOUR HEART SAYS STAY

In this episode of the Intact Life podcast, host Shamsudin Hakik addresses the painful tension between divine prompting to leave a marriage and the personal fear that keeps listeners stuck. Framed as part of the "Held Hostage" miniseries (Week 1: Veronica’s crisis inside a toxic marriage; Week 2: Tonya’s doorway—having left but not closed the door; Week 3 preview: Marcus, a man trapped by childhood trauma), the episode offers a concrete "5‑sign" framework that signals God has already granted permission to move on. The signs include: (1) God gave you the courage to leave; (2) you are thriving outside the marriage; (3) your spouse has not changed despite ample opportunity; (4) you know deep down it’s over but are hesitating; and (5) an inner peace test when visualizing filing divorce papers. The host contrasts active faith (illustrated with Abraham, Moses, Ruth) with passive fear masquerading as faith, warning listeners that theological language can become a chain in abusive contexts. Throughout, Shamsudin urges listeners to take a free INTACT assessment (revealing love‑pattern, 5‑pillar scores, life mode), a narcissism test, and to book a low‑cost strategy session. He also promotes an AI coaching companion, Roxy, on delphi.com, and invites prayer for permission to close the door. The episode ends by previewing Week 3’s focus on men’s hidden wounds, reinforcing the series’ theme that both women and men can be held hostage by fear, trauma, or unhealthy relational patterns.

This episode is for the woman who prays every morning but can't leave. For the man who quotes scripture but won't file the papers. For the person whose faith says marriage is a covenant, but whose body moved them out of the house a year ago. For everyone who's ever used God's name as a reason to stay in something God already delivered them from. This episode isn't anti-faith. This episode isn't pro-divorce. This episode is pro-truth. And the truth is, sometimes God says go before your heart is ready to leave. And that gap between God's green light and your heart's red light is where people get stuck for years. Today, I'm giving you a framework to bridge that gap, not to make the decision for you, but to help you see clearly which voice you're actually listening to. Faith Or fear. This is episode 12, When God Says Go, But Your Heart Says Stay.

Welcome back. I'm Shamsuddin. Before we get into today's teaching, if you've been following the Held Hostage series and you haven't taken a free intact assessment yet, this is the week to do it. Go to theintactlife.com. It's free, takes 10 minutes. You'll get your love patterns, your 5 pillar scores, your life mode, everything I've been coaching Veronica and Tanya through. You can discover for yourself at theintactlife.com. Do it today. Now, let me address the elephant in the room. In many faith communities, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, doesn't matter the denomination, marriage is sacred. It's a covenant. It's unbreakable. And I agree with that. Marriage is sacred. But here's what happens when sacred language meets toxic situations. People use theology to justify suffering, and they do it with the best intentions. Pastors who say pray harder, family who says God will fix it, friends who say marriage is a covenant, you can't just leave. And all of those statements can be true in the right context. But when someone is being emotionally abused, financially controlled, or systematically erased inside their marriage, Those same statements become chains. So let me make a distinction that changed my entire coaching career. Faith says, God, I trust your plan. Show me the path and I'll walk it, even if it's hard, even if it hurts, even if it means letting go. Fear says, God, I'm scared to move, so I'll call my paralysis waiting on you and my avoidance trusting the process. Faith is active. It moves. It seeks. It acts on what it knows. Abraham left his homeland. Moses crossed the Red Sea. Ruth left Moab. Every major act of faith is scripture-involved in some act. Faith is active. It moves. It seeks. It acts on what it knows. Look at Abraham. He left his homeland. Go over to Moses and you'll see that he crossed the Red Sea. Even look at the story of Ruth and you'll see that she left Moab. Every major act of faith in scripture involves someone leaving something behind. Fear is passive. It waits, it hides, it renames stuck as patient and sacred as spiritual. And the cruelest thing about fear disguised as faith, you can't fight it because the moment someone challenges you, you say, I'm just trusting God and nobody wants to argue with that. But Tonya said it herself without realizing it. She said, I'm a spiritual woman. If God is not in the midst, then it was man-made. And I asked her, Tonya, was God in the midst of a marriage where you begged for free things for 7 years and got nothing? Was God in the midst of a man who agreed to everything and delivered nothing? Was God in the midst of your personality drowning? Or was God in the midst of your moment you had the clarity and courage to walk away? Because maybe Just maybe God wasn't in the marriage. Maybe God was in the exit. If you just felt that, if something inside you recognized the difference between faith and fear in your situation, take the free assessment right now at theintactlife.com. It'll show you your faith pillar score and whether your faith is functioning as your foundation or as your excuse. It's 10 minutes. It's free. Go ahead and do it today. So here's the framework, 5 signs that God has already given you permission to move forward and you're the one who hasn't caught up yet. I built this from 25 years of coaching spiritual people through separation and divorce. These are the patterns I see over and over. Sign 1, he gave you the courage to leave. You left. That's not a coincidence. That's not rebellion. That's divine discernment. Operating through your body when your mind couldn't make the decision. Think about it. You tried to stay. You prayed about it. You went to therapy. You had hundreds of conversations. You gave it years. And your spirit still said, this is not where I belong. If God didn't want you to leave, then you wouldn't have been able to. Your faith would have kept you there. The fact that your faith couldn't keep you there, that your own spiritual conviction moved you out, is the sign. God gave you the courage, so stop asking him if he meant it. Sign 2, you're thriving outside the marriage. Tanya has her own place, her own car, a better job, and she's going to church. She's joining groups. She's spending time with friends and family, and she is more of herself outside the marriage than she ever was inside it. If God wanted you back in that marriage, why is he blessing you outside of it? Why is your peace increasing? Why is your identity returning? Why are you sleeping better, praying stronger, living fuller? Fruit doesn't grow in the wrong soil. If you're flourishing in your separation, the soil has changed. So trust the harvest. Sign 3, he hasn't changed despite having every reason to. 2 years of separation, that's 730 days. To go to therapy, 730 days to change behavior, 730 days to fight for the marriage. What has he done? He's sent money. He's driven by her house at 6 AM. He's hovered. He's monitored. That's not fighting for a marriage. That's guarding a possession. If your separation was supposed to be a wake-up call and they pressed snooze for 2 years, the alarm has stopped ringing. Accept the silence for what it is.
Your answer.
Sign 4, you already know, you just won't say it. This is the one that gets people emotional, so bear with me for a moment. Tonya knew. She knew when she left. She knew 6 months in. She knew a year in. She knows right now. When I asked her about filing, she didn't say, I don't know. She said, I don't know why I'm hesitating. That's a difference. I don't know means you need more information. I don't know why I'm hesitating means you have all the information. You're just afraid to act on it. If you know, if deep down, past the fear, past the faith, past the family story, you know it's over, then you're not waiting on God. You're waiting on yourself. And God is waiting on you too, because he can't open the next door until you close this one. Your peace is on the other side of the decision. Last one, and this is a test. Close your eyes for a second. Imagine you file the papers tomorrow. Imagine it's done. Feel that moment. What do you feel? Go ahead and be honest with yourself and let me know exactly what you feel. If you feel terror, that's fear. And fear is not from God. If you feel sadness mixed with grief, bro, if you feel sadness mixed with relief, that's grief. Grief is healthy. Grief means you love something and you're letting it go with honor. If you feel peace underneath the sadness, if somewhere in your spirit behind the tears you feel a quiet finally, that's God. That's the still, small voice that's been saying go for 2 years while your heart has been saying stay. Trust the peace, even when it's wrapped in tears. If you recognize yourself in those 5 signs, if your spirit is saying, that's me right now, 2 things. First, take the free assessment at theintactwife.com. See your 5 pillar scores. See which pillar is weakest. See your love pattern and your life mode. Know where you actually are, not where you think you are. Second, if you need someone to walk you through your version of what I just walked Tanya through, book a strategy session. $30, 30 minutes. It'll be me. It'll be your results, your situation, your plan. I only take a few per week, so Go ahead and click the link in the bio at theintactlife.com/coaching. I want to give you something you can take with you, not a checklist, not a framework, a prayer. Because for many of you, what you need isn't more information. You have all the information. What you need is permission. Permission to let go, permission to grieve, permission to close the door. And some of you need that permission from God. So here it is. You can pray this tonight, tomorrow morning, right now in the car. God, I come to you with a decision I've been avoiding, not because I don't know what to do, but because I'm afraid of what it means. I'm afraid of the word divorced. I'm afraid of my family's reaction. I'm afraid of being alone. I'm afraid I failed. But I also know deep in my spirit, past the fear, that you didn't bring me out of this marriage to leave me stuck at the door. You gave me the courage to leave. You've blessed me in my separation. You've been rebuilding me in ways I couldn't rebuild inside that marriage. So today, I stop asking for a sign you already gave me. I stop waiting for permission you already granted. I stop calling my fear your patience. I trust that you know what's on the other side of this door. And even though I can't see it yet, I'm going to walk through it. Not in anger, not in bitterness, in faith. Because I believe you love me too much to let me spend another year in the doorway. You built me for rooms, not hallways. Homes, not thresholds. Life, not limbo. So I close this door and I trust that what you have on the other side is better than what I'm leaving behind. Amen. If you prayed that, Even quietly, even in your head, something just shifted. Maybe you don't feel it yet, but it moved. Trust it. That wraps up week 2 of the Held Hostage miniseries. Week 1 was Veronica's Crisis, the wife held hostage inside the marriage. 3 love patterns, 0 out of 5 on the 5C. Week 2 was The Doorway, Tonya's story, the woman who had the courage to leave but not the courage to close the door. 2 years in limbo. Faith disguised as fear, a generational story keeping her chained. And the thread that connects them— Veronica's is still inside the prison. Tonya escaped the prison but took the chains with her. Both are hostages, just to different things. Next week, we flip the mirror. We spent 2 weeks looking at women who are held hostage by narcissistic husbands and by their own fear. But we haven't asked the question, what about the men? What patterns do men carry that create these prisons? What does it look like when a man is held hostage, not by a woman, but by his own trauma? Week 3 is The Mirror. I'm introducing you to a man I'll call Marcus. He's been friend-zoned his entire adult life. Women like him as a person, but he never feels that pull. He says he wants a certain type of woman physically, but he weighs 300 pounds and demands a woman between 130 and 175 pounds. On the surface, that sounds like delusion, hypocrisy, shallow. But underneath, there's a reason he dates from the surface, because going deeper means going back to a place he's been running from since childhood. Something happened to him as a boy that changed how he sees men, how he sees himself, and how he shows up in relationships. Until he faces it, he'll keep getting friend-zoned. Keep chasing surface, keep building invisible prisons he doesn't even know he's in. Week 3 isn't about blaming men. It's about showing that men are hostages too. And sometimes the prison isn't a person or a doorway. It's a wound from childhood that nobody ever helped you heal. 3 people, 3 prisons, 3 weeks. We've been through 2, one more to go. 3 things before I go. One, take the free INTACT assessment at theintactlife.com. Tonya's weakest pillar was relationships at 2 out of 10, but she didn't know that until we ran it. Her finance was 8. Her vocation was 7. She's strong, just strong in the wrong places. The assessment shows you where your strength is and where the weakness is hiding. Free right now, free forever. 2, take the narcissism test at theintactlife.com/narcissismtest. If you've been in a narcissistic dynamic, whether you're Veronica inside the prison or Tanya standing in the doorway, this test shows you which conditioning mechanisms are active and how deep they go. It's 15 questions, 5 minutes, and it's free. 3 is the strategy session. I only take a few per week. It's $30 for 30 minutes. Your results are reviewed personally by me, your situation mapped to the INTACT framework, your action plan for this week, and There's only a few spots left. The link is in the bio, and once they're gone, they reset on Monday. Now, if you prayed that prayer tonight and the momentum shifted, keep the momentum going. Go ahead and talk to Roxy, my AI coaching companion at delphi.com. She's available 24/7. It's private, no judgment. She's trained on the same INTACT framework to help Tanya see her 3 locks. The link is in the bio. Go ahead and follow me at @AskFreenom and join me for my next live coaching sessions. If you're in the doorway, if you're inside of prison, if you're looking in the mirror and not sure what you see, go ahead and show up and I'll help you see clearly. Go ahead and share this episode, like this episode. There's someone you love and is using God's name as a reason to stay in something God already delivered them from, and they need to hear this. I'm Shamsud-Din. This is Intact Life. Doorway was never meant to be your home. It was meant to be your exit. Use it. I'll see you in episode 13. We're walking through the mirror, and what we find there might surprise you.
First they want to see me fall, see me break, see me crawl. Never want to see me hold truth. But now I speak, so you gonna feel it all. I'm the presence in the room. I don't just speak, I command your presence. Demand excellence. Breathe fire with reckless reverence. Plant it in the best soil, deep like ancestral truth. Try to form a plan, but you could never reroute me. I'm still here. Congratulate me, survived it all. Wore it like a suit. And I'm still here. Can walk through hell with a heaven-bound boot. That's the same path you gonna walk. From broken to unbreakable, from loss to legacy. Talk intact life, we map the journey. 7 loops, 5 modes, 5 pillars, no attorney. Break your loop, build your love.
