In this monologue, Shamsudin Hakim recaps Week 2 of his series, titled “The Doorway.” He tells the story of Tonya, a woman who had the bravery to walk away from an abusive situation but lacked the resolve to shut the door behind her, leaving her in a two‑year limbo where fear masqueraded as faith and generational patterns kept her chained. He contrasts Tonya with Veronica, who remains trapped inside the metaphorical prison. Hakim frames both women as hostages—Tonya to the lingering chains she carries out, Veronica to the prison itself. He then signals the next two weeks’ focus: examining women held hostage by narcissistic husbands and by their own fear, effectively “flipping the mirror” on these dynamics.
