Shane Yadao and Joey discuss honor as something you do, not something you say. Shane honors his marriage by putting his wife first and once apologized after realizing he'd been unkind during a recorded argument. Real honor means keeping promises when no one's watching and staying true to your word.

What does it mean to be a good leader? That's a great question. That's a really deep question, you know. So I guess when I think about that, it just, to me, it means just to represent well, you know. It means to represent well. It means to hold in high esteem, you know, the things that really matter to me, that are most important, but not just to do them in a way where I talk about them, but it's in a way that it shows through my actions. So I think about, right, if I honor my marriage, then my actions show it. I don't just tell my wife I love her. I don't just tell her things that make her feel good. I show it through my actions. Like I said, I, or like you said, right? I make sure that she's first. My needs second, hers are first. I think about the people in my life that have gone before me. I honor them by being a great example to what they've taught me throughout the years. And sometimes, so it's in actions and sometimes it's in silence. By the things that we don't say, you know, I think is, you know, to me is being honorable. You know, because yeah, there's sometimes, you know, in our communication, in our relationship, because I honor my wife in that relationship, I'm not gonna say certain things, you know, not that I'm gonna be dishonest, but I'm not gonna lash out. We would go, we went back and forth. We, you know, we conversate a lot. We have a lot of communication. And oftentimes, you know, when we're communicating at high decibels, she'll say things like, "You said this and you said that." So I was like, "No, no, no, no, let me record it." So I started recording our conversations. Our— I'll call her conversation.
It was an argument.
One time. And I remember, you know, 'cause I'm thinking I'm being so honorable by listening and talking, you know, very kindly and softly and gently. And I remember though, at the end, I felt like she just wasn't listening to me. So I felt I was justified in the way I spoke. But then I remember listening to the recording afterwards and I remember listening to it going, That was so uncalled for. You know, that was so not the right answer. And so because I honor my wife, I could have easily been like, yeah, I listened to it and it was, I was right, I was justified. But I listened to it, I realized that I was wrong. And because I honor my wife, I apologized to her for saying the things that I said and the way I said it, you know? And so I guess that is something that I'm saying something, you know, but I could have been totally honorable and not have said what I said, I guess is my point, you know? So.
And I think honor has more to do with actions behind the scenes. That's what I really feel. It's a strength. It's maybe more of a quiet strength. And it's really truly meaning what you say, saying what you mean, following through. That was one big thing for us in the very beginning because there was some things that was going on. And I remember us looking at each other and it was like strength and honor means that we're going to follow through. We're gonna follow through, we're gonna keep our promises, and we're gonna just really be what we say we are, who we say we are behind closed doors when nobody's looking, nobody's watching, when it's not fun or fancy or what, that this is who Shane and Joey is and what we're gonna do. I think that's what honor is.
Yep, strength in honor means following through. Mm-hmm.
