How To Create An Interactive Clickable PDF In Keynote Video

Cheryl Plouffe shows how to turn a Keynote presentation into an interactive PDF with clickable links. She duplicates her deck to swap Amazon.ca URLs for Amazon.com, then uses Ctrl+right-click to add hyperlinks to images before exporting as PDF. Useful for serving different regional audiences without rebuilding from scratch.

Wanna know how to take your PDFs to the next level? Make them interactive. So let me give you a little bit of a premise of what we're doing here. I have a smartphone video production program that I teach, and I have clients in Canada and the US. What became apparent to me when I created my first PDF for my clients was that everything was linking to the Amazon.ca site and it wasn't really serving my US clients as well. So I decided to make an alternate version for them with links to the US site of Amazon. And in that process I realized, you know what, I'm going to do a little recording of this process so that it helps you for your clients and for your business so that you can create value-added assets like these, which really help to help them. So if you— and I already have them already created. You're looking at a folder on my desktop with all of the different elements inside, including the US version of my PDF and the Canadian version, US and Canadian. So you don't have to do the US and Canada versions, but you could create one PDF with links and make it interactive so that it really serves your clients at the highest level. So if you're doing that and you're starting from scratch, in my case, I duplicated and I swapped out the links. In your case, you may be starting from scratch. You're going to go down to Keynote, and you're basically going to create a Keynote presentation. So in my case here, I've opened up this particular presentation, and it's just like any old Keynote presentation, right? You've got your slides, you've got, you know, your various images that you can put in here, and you can put in anything that you like. So in this case, you see the little blue arrow? That's indicating that it's already hyperlinked. When you first start your presentation and you put it together, you're not going to see those little links yet. So let me show you how you get this little blue arrow link on here, which indicates that it is hyperlinked and that it's going to be clickable when someone clicks on that image. So what you do is you go over to wherever you want— it doesn't have to be Amazon, but in this case, I'm using Amazon because I want them to go to the, to the to the Amazon product. Because it helps them, it saves them a lot of time because they don't have to research everything and what have you. So this link could be really anything. But what I'm doing in this Amazon case is I'm looking up that item, Cowboy Lighting Kit, and I'm going down and I find it and here it is. I click on the item and going up to the top where the URL is, I'm copying and pasting that URL. So basically, I copy that. I come back to the Keynote, and I'm going to Ctrl+right-click on that image until I see the dropdown menu to edit link. I'm going to edit the link, make sure that it's, it's on web page because you have options of slide, web page, and email. Pick web page. And then in this case, it already has a link. So in your case, if you're starting from scratch, it will say apple.com, you delete that. And then you can then you paste your new URL, and then hit, hit return on your keyboard. And that brings in that little blue arrow means it's hyperlinked. So you basically go through that same process for each of the items on your presentation. So for example, if I go back now to Amazon, and I want to search up ring light, Okay, so let me go ring light. I go down to the ring light that I recommend, which is this one here. I'm going to do the same thing. I'm going to go up, I'm going to copy, and I come back into my Keynote presentation. I'm going to get that drop-down menu to edit link, delete the apple.com in your case, URL, and I'm going to substitute that for the new one, and I'm going to hit return on my keyboard. And that's it. You click off, and then that's hyperlinked. So you go through each of the images in your PDF, and you can make anything you like clickable. Doesn't have to be an image. But in this case, I'm using images, but you can make really anything clickable on your PDF. And once you're finished, you hit save. Then you go over to export, and you export that as a PDF. I always choose the best quality image. I hit next. And then I choose where on my computer I'd like to save it. So I'm going to save it to my folder on my computer, and it creates the PDF for me. And that's it. It's really, really simple. It's a great way to add more value. And it's a really great way to potentially save your clients a lot of time and effort by doing some of this work for them.
