How To Own Your On-Screen Nervousness

Nervousness on camera is usable energy, not something to fight. Start with a Facebook Live, tell people it's your first time, and let the encouraging comments you get fuel the next one. A few videos in, you'll notice the nerves fade.

it's perfectly natural to feel nervous. So I never tell people, oh, don't be nervous. It's like, yes, you will be nervous. You embrace that and use that as energy that guides you through, that gets you through it. And the thing is, is that there's really no way to kind of get around it so much as you just have to do it. And it's amazing how much progress you can make in 1, 2, or even 3 videos. In terms of getting that nervousness to abate, but you do have to go through it. So I say, you know, you're going to embrace the nerves, you're going to own it, you're going to stand there, and you're going to do what you know how to do. And you know, a couple of other things I'd say, you know, if it's your first Facebook Live video as an example, like some of my clients have, you know, worked with me and done their very first Facebook Live, I say, you know what, go and do that first Facebook Live and tell people that it's your first one. You're gonna hear other video coaches who say, "Oh no, don't admit that it's your first one." I say yes. I say, "You know what? It's okay." Because that's your experience and that's authentic to you in that moment. And it's okay to say, "You know what, guys? I'm nervous right now. This is my very first Facebook Live." And you'd be amazed at how people want you to succeed. They want you to do well, and most people will applaud you. For that. And when you start getting comments, let's say it's your first Facebook Live as an example, you get a comment saying, "Go girl, way to go." These are the little things that starts to boost your confidence, and you start to realize, I've got people on my side. It takes one comment like that to make you feel a little flutter, right? And then the next time you do it, you're like, okay, I didn't, I had people who, I might have only had 3 people watching that first Facebook Live that I did, but one person commented, "Go girl!" And those things are now embedded in your subconscious. So it's just a matter of continuing on, but starting, that's the most important thing.
