In this tutorial, video marketing strategist Sheryl Plouffe answers a student’s question about repurposing existing Camtasia videos for Instagram’s IGTV platform. She explains that YouTube favors HD landscape videos while IGTV requires vertical portrait videos (1080 × 1920). She walks through the Camtasia workflow: opening Project Settings, changing the canvas dimensions to 1080 × 1920, adjusting the background color to match branding, and exporting the project. She then checks the exported file’s size (must be under 650 MB) via the file’s Get Info dialog. Finally, she demonstrates uploading the vertical video to IGTV using the Instagram website—drag‑and‑dropping the file, adding a cover image, title, and description, and optionally cross‑posting to a connected Facebook page. The video ends with a call‑to‑action to subscribe to her YouTube channel for more video‑marketing tutorials.

I got a great question from one of my mastermind students recently. My name is Sheryl Plouffe. I'm a video marketing strategist, and his question was, how can I repurpose my videos in Camtasia that I've already produced and that I've already edited and really repurpose them for IGTV? So that's what I'm going to show you today. We're gonna hop over to my computer and I'm going to show you step by step. But let's just remember that these are two different platforms and that the formats are different for each. For YouTube, we we want the videos to be in HD landscape mode and in that format. On IGTV, on the other hand, we want vertical videos, in other words, up and down portrait mode. So that's where it gets tricky. If you have not recorded your video in vertical portrait mode already and you have it in landscape, here's how you can take it from Camtasia and export it in the right format for IGTV. So let's head over to my computer. What I would do in this case is I would go over to the top and I'll go down to Project Settings. And in Project Settings, I can change the dimension of the video. So in this case, I would go, um, 1080 by 1920, 1920, and apply that. Oops, did that work? Let's see. Oh, sorry, I have to pick the— where is it here? Yeah, I did that custom. Custom. Okay, width 1080. Let's try that again. 1080 by 1920. Apply. There we go. Okay, so you can't see the whole thing here, so I'm going to just make this canvas smaller so you can get a sense of what I'm talking about. See how it changed the dimensions of the canvas itself. So now what you have is black background at the top and the bottom. How you would change that again is you go down to Project Settings and you can change the color of the background to whatever you want, whether you want to pick a color or you want to choose a color that you already have, any color you want, your brand color or white, you know, whatever that is. Now click Apply and now the background has changed. So from this point you're going to then as you normally would in Camtasia, export your video to wherever you want to on your desktop or what have you. You name your file and you're going to export. Now let me think about this for a moment. If we hit, um, export as is, it should export in that format. Let me pause the video and make sure that's the case. Okay, I'm back, and yes, it did export. I didn't have to do the extra step, so that's good. So here we go. I'm opening now the file that I saved, and as you can see, if I play this out, it is in— I'll just turn that volume down. There we go. That this has been exported now in that format that we want for IGTV. So that's great. In order to upload a video to IGTV from the web, we need to make sure that it is the right size or that it's under 650 megabytes. So how we would do that is you would go to your video. I'm going to right-click on this and open the Get Info, and it should bring you a box that shows you how large the file is. So in this case, it's 141 megabytes, so we're within the limits and we're good to go. And now we want to get our new vertical format video, our repurposed Camtasia video, into IGTV. So here's how you would do it. You open up your Google Chrome or web browser of your choice. I like Chrome. And what we're gonna do is we're gonna go to Instagram.com, and you'll want to do this— user profile. And you just hit enter and it will bring— you need to find yourself. So basically you want to get to the point where you're signed into Instagram, so to speak. Okay, so you find your profile and then you log in as necessary. So what you want to do then is you'll go down here to IGTV, and when you click on IGTV, you will see the upload button. So now you hit upload, and you can either drag and drop. So actually what I'll do here is I will drag and drop, or I could just add— I could find the video right from my desktop, or I could drag and drop. So this way I'll just— since this is easiest right now because I can find it easily, I'm going to add my video. And here I can edit the COVID photo if I want to. If I had, say, created a cover photo in Canva as an example or something like that. I could edit the actual cover. You'll want to add a description and a title. This is like YouTube on Instagram, so it's really similar from that perspective. You want to add the title, the description, and you could choose to make this visible on your Facebook page if you wanted to. So right now the video is still uploading, so I'm going to hit here Facebook Again, find my page right here so I could connect my page. I've gotten the blue checkmark now that makes it, you know, the upload is complete and this is connected and now you hit post. So that's really basically it.
