An Inspiring Leadership Story

In this monologue on the Shiny Minds Show, Dr. Shiny Unsal shares a personal leadership experience from a seven‑day training in Fiji (2020). Faced with two competing groups, she could have joined the powerful, experienced team to maximize her chances of winning. Instead, she was drawn to a less skilled, less expressive group that offered room for growth. She chose to lead that underdog team, investing energy in creating chants, dances, activities, and a safe, joyful environment. Despite early setbacks and the other group’s dominance, she persisted, staying early, leaving late, and fostering deep bonds. By the final day, the underdog group had built trust, love, and collective energy, which ultimately outshone the powerful group and won the competition. The story underscores the moral that leadership rooted in faith, hope, love, and community can triumph over conventional power structures. Dr. Uns al reflects on the transformative impact of this experience, emphasizing that leaders can inspire change by choosing purpose over prestige, maintaining belief in their team, and cultivating joy and connection.

Let's talk about an inspiring leadership story. It combines the power of the mind with the wisdom of your heart, and it just helps you to unlock your potential. Put your hands together for Gary Vaynerchuk! Hey everyone, welcome to my Shiny Minds Show. Hello everyone, my name is Shiny Unsal. I am the proud creator of Neuroshine Technology, an ICF certified coach, an ICF certified coach trainer, and a licensed trainer of neurolinguistic programming. Today I would love to share a very inspiring leadership story that I personally have experienced in my life, and I would love to share that with you because it's very uncommon that I get to share stories video in my Shiny Minds show, but this one is really going to inspire you and really going to make you think twice, maybe in your decisions, especially about your leadership decisions. It doesn't matter where you are in your life. You can lead teams of thousands or hundreds, or you can lead a lot of kids at home, or you can lead your friends. No matter where your leadership story is, this will be, I believe, a very good story. This is a story of a leader where she experienced something so unique about herself and her own leadership skills. And the story goes like this. She goes to an event, a training with 200 other people, and she knows that it's a leadership training. And she knows that she wants to have fun and she wants to maximize her own potential, she is curious to know what she can create for others. And so when she is there physically, she observes the environment and she looks at the people, and of course she wants to sit in the front, and so she grabs a seat. When she is sitting in the front with other bunch of personal development and professional development enthusiasts, she understands that there is a competition. There are going to be two groups in this event, and these groups are going to have a leader, and at the end of the event, at the end of the training, one of the groups is going to win, and it will depend on the engagement of the group, the energy that they bring to the room, and the contribution that they're going to make for the room. So her first thought is to scan the room and to join the team with powerful ones. Why? Because she wants to win. She enjoys winning. She enjoys a good competition where she can actually show off her leadership skills and show off her talents and lead the team and join the winning team and celebrate, you know, go home as a winner. That is the first thought. On the other hand, she is also invited to a group of other people where she sees that there is less power, maybe there is less expression, maybe there is less skills, but a lot of room for growth. And so now she can make a choice. She can go either way. She wants to join the powerful, and still yet she sees the opportunity for growth here. And the universe does its magic, and she's actually chosen by the people of the second group where she saw the opportunity to grow. She does a lot. She engages with the group. She puts them together, she creates activities and she creates chants and songs and fun times and she just brings out her best. She invites them to dance, she invites them to connect and she invites them to meet and develop ideas and strategize and next thing you know, she feels like none of it is working because the other group is so powerful and so connected and she's still losing and she's not seeing the result that she she wants to create. So there goes a challenge, there, there goes a time for a day, 2, 3, or 4, and this event is for 7 days. So towards the end, she starts seeing something different in the group. She starts seeing the bonding because they are doing a lot of things together and she is literally not sleeping. She is taking more responsibility, She is being there early in the morning and leaving at night and definitely bringing the joy, the, the energy, and the connection to the group. Towards the end of the training, she sees the difference. People are bonding, people are having fun, people are feeling safe and trusted and feeling like a family, and they're all having fun together. It's not about the competition anymore. It's not about who is going to win. It's not about who is going to make the biggest difference or contribution. It's all about joy and bringing together this energy and the feeling of community and family. And so something magical happens, and most of the people in the powerful group leave. They're gone all of a sudden, and they are all called for a big mission. These two groups are going to compete, and whoever brings the most energy They're gonna win. But up until that time, this group always won because they're powerful, they're more crowded, and they're more experienced, and then they always had a lot of energy. But last day, for some reason, the universe brings its magic together and a lot of people in this group leave and they're already bonded. They're already feeling so much safer and connected. And guess what? They bring the magic, they bring the joy, and they bring so much fun and love to the room that they end up becoming the winner. And the moral of the story is that where she actually wanted to belong, with the powerful ones, to go home as a winner, she was chosen and she was called for a bigger purpose. A bigger meaning, and that meaning was to give hope to the other group, to other people, and to show them what was possible, to show them that with more love, more positivity, more determination, and more connection, it was possible to flourish and to improve skills and connect and really bring something different. And the other moral of the story is that she never lost her faith. She kept her faith in her group even though it didn't work at the beginning, even though she felt like a failure at the beginning because they kept winning, they kept going stronger, and it was not happening for her group. She never lost her faith. She kept her faith. She kept the hope. She invited and ignited the hope, and at the end, it was a big win, it was a big success, it was big love. So the lady at this leadership position was me, and it was an amazing story, and it was an amazing experience for me to bring home from Fiji in 2020. That was one of the most amazing times that I've ever had in my entire life. As a leader. Even though I was able to lead big teams, even hundreds, it was never the same. This was totally an amazing experience where I saw people go from not talking to each other to connecting and becoming best friends. And I saw people not really sharing their light and their shine with each other to going on stage and dancing like crazy as, you know, chickens with their heads cut off. It was just so much fun to experience that, and I will never forget this experience. So here, so this is my leadership story. I was inspired by what I was able to create because I felt alone in this journey to lead that team of 100, but in the end, I felt so much love, so much hope, and so much faith inside of me. And I hope you are also inspired hearing and listening to the story, and I hope you can always remember that there is always more. There is always room for more, more love, more faith, more hope, and more joy. So I hope you liked this video.
