How To LOVE (even when you are hurt)

Dr. Shiny Unsal argues that love is life's ultimate meaning, especially urgent when we face mortality. She lost her father to a sudden heart attack and uses that loss to show why expressing love can't wait. The principle: only hurt people hurt other people, so transform anger and resentment into compassion.

Hey everyone, welcome to my Shiny Minds Show. Hi, this is Shiny, and I am the creator of Neuroshine Technology, and today I would love to talk to you about how to love even when you're hurt. Especially these days when we are locked down at homes, it becomes even more important to take care of our loved ones. I'm talking about the ones that you are with. This pandemic is inviting us to go deeper within ourselves and face our mortality. So the first concept that I want to bring to you is that because we are facing mortality, our mortality and our loved ones' mortality, doesn't it remind us that love is the most important? Doesn't it make us become more aware that love is the meaning of everything in the universe? I believe if we really take it deep to our being, We are going to understand that we might lose our loved ones, your loved one, your significant other. You can lose them and it might be too late for you to show your love. You might be holding back because you are hurt. You might be holding back because you're angry and you might be holding back because you have fears and none of them right now matter because Right now, we are in a situation to really dig deep and extract what's truly important. And I want to also remind you something. Only hurt people hurt other people. What does that mean? If you are hurt, which means that somebody violated your values. Somebody violated your identity, who you are, or maybe it's you who violated your own values and that's why you're hurt. And it's not necessarily the other people's responsibility to not make you hurt. It is our responsibility to, to really own our values and the way we show up, our boundaries, to make it so clear to other people so that They are aware and we create this space of understanding so we don't necessarily hurt each other. But let's say that it happened and then you are hurt. The reason you are hurt is because the person who hurt you was already hurt. Because like I said, only hurt people hurt other people. Does that make sense? And then when you think about their mortality, you might lose them tomorrow or you might be gone tomorrow. This life is precious. And when you think about it, like, what is the meaning of my life? Why do I live? When you go really deep, you will find out that love can rise above and beyond anything, any kind of fear, any kind of hurt, any kind of anger, whatever you have been through. And the second idea I want to bring and share with you is legacy. Legacy meaning what are you going to leave behind? Who are you going to be in a relationship? And why is that important? I want you to think about your legacy. When you're gone, when you're done playing on this beautiful planet Earth as your playground, what are you going to leave behind? What we leave behind becomes even more important than what we have at some point when we think about eternally. When you're thinking about now in your life here on earth, I get it. Like you want to protect your ego and your emotions and you want to be right and you want to defend and all that. And still, yeah, what's going to happen when you're gone? I know I'm being very, very spiritual right now. Today I feel like it, it's an emotional day and I want to Invite you to think about these things because what ends up happening is because we don't put our mind, our attention into these topics, we don't ponder, we don't think about them, we don't really analyze them. And because we don't have clarity around them, life happens. And as life happens, it comes with anger, it comes with frustration and fear and exclusion, we need to think about inclusion. And that's exactly how you can remind yourself that love is here. Love is the meaning of life. Even when you're hurt, even when you have anger, resentment, disappointment, it's bigger than anything. And I want to remind you that It's not a poem. It's not somebody who is, who's just like showing up and sharing this with you. I am sharing these ideas with you because I have faced mortality. I lost my father to a sudden heart attack when I didn't expect at all. And it just showed me very, very real, that life is going to end. It's, it's a gift and it's going to end one day. And then we might regret if we don't show love for our loved ones. I am speaking in terms of your relationships, your romantic relationships right now, but it is also valid for your family, your friends, and who, who you care about. If you, if you lose them, it's too late. I don't want you to feel that it is too late like I felt back in 2006. It was too late for me. I didn't think about mortality. I didn't think about legacy. I didn't think about none of these things. I was just in my life, like automatically living. Life was happening and the results, the emotions, like they were all happening. I was not in charge of them. And because I faced it and because I experienced it, and then because it just gave me remarkable understanding about life. I wanted to just share this with you, especially during these days, during coronavirus, we are locked down at home. And if you find yourself becoming resentful, becoming angry, becoming frustrated, and choosing to hold on to that negative emotion rather than love, please remember life is limited. And life is beautiful with love, and you can find it in your heart to tap into love anytime you want, and life is going to be much better, much more beautiful and joyful. Here is my last word. The world is our playground, and love is how we win. Because remember, life is a beautiful game, that you can play on your own terms successfully in love. So it's your time to become who you're meant to be so that together we can change the world and make it a better place with more love and shiny minds.
