Day 22 Inspiration Parenting Autism Real and Raw with Siobhan Wilcox - Believe

Siobhan Wilcox (founder/creator of Autism Experts Alliance) narrates a personal miracle: she healed an injured hummingbird which then recovered and flew away. She uses the hummingbird as a symbol for restored family joy and parallels it with recent positive changes in her autistic son's behaviour after removing a problematic food from his diet. Wilcox also recounts Wilma Rudolph's story to illustrate the power of parental belief and self-belief. She closes by urging caregivers to practice self-care (walks, baths, yoga, social time), offering contact details and teleseminar registration links.

Hey everybody, Siobhan Wilcox here, the founder and creator of Autism Experts alliance, day 22 of Parenting Autism. Rilin Ra, thank you so much for coming back and joining me again. You know, a miracle happened at our house last night. My husband was kind of jest, driving me to come into the kitchen and he looked kind of shocked. And I came into the kitchen, he's pointing at the patio door. And I looked at the patio door and I said, what's going on? And outside was this tiny little hummingbird lying on the paving outside the patio. It looked like it was dead, but it was shaking. So I'm thinking, no, it is that the breeze blowing it, is it still alive? My husband was like, ah, don't let the dog get it. Don't let the kids go near it. They'll get too upset if they see it. So he's running around trying to find a box or something that we can put this in. And I just decided to go outside to it. You know, I love hummingbirds. I think they're just magical. And I know in the Native American Indians totems, they're the symbol of joy. So a part of me got really distressed when I saw that this hummingbird had died in our garden and thinking to myself, oh, that's not so good for our totem. But I went outside and I've been doing hands on healing since I was 6. So at 6, I had a memory of something. I don't know where it came from, but just a belief that I could heal people with my hands. So I used to go around anyone had a headache, pain, anything, I was like healing them with my hands. So in my 20s, I actually studied many different forms of healing. Reiki energy healing, color therapy, vibrational healing, light therapy, sound therapy, many different modalities of shifting the energetics in the body. So I decided I would just talk. I could see the hummingbird when I got outside, wasn't actually dead, but he was bleeding. He cuts all down his chest. I thought to myself, he's either being attacked by something or he's flown into our patio. And we didn't hear it because all his throat was all cut up. And then I thought maybe he was in a fight with another hummingbird because I know sometimes they fight for territory. So I decided I'm like talking to the little bird. I'm like, it's okay, sweetheart, you're going to be safe, you're going to be okay. And I decided to just kind of kneel down close to him and send healing to him. He was so shaking. I mean, he was just like this back and forth, and his eyes were watching me, and he was panting, and he looked at any moment that he was just going to die. And I just started sending healing to him, just love and healing. And next minute, my husband is just getting the box and he's walking up to the patio door, and the bird up flies off. My husband's like, what? That. That was a dead bird. It's a miracle. But it was. It was a miracle. It was a miracle in belief. It was a miracle in love. It was a miracle in healing. And in a sense, I felt it was symbolic of the journey I've been on with my son. You know, he's been so distressed in the last number of months, so aggressive, so out of character with himself, that it was depleting aspects of our family's joy. And when I saw the hummingbird outside, I'm thinking to myself, whoops, that's not good. Symbol for our joy levels. A dead hummingbird in our garden. But then the miracle of restoring the hummingbird to life brought new hope to me. And I could feel this rush of energy come into me. It was like, okay, miracles happen. Things happen. Ships happen. And I had said in a few videos ago, you know, we're really starting to see the link between Marcellin's behavior and different foods types. And in the last couple of days, we've brought that down again, and we found that one particular food was creating havoc for him. And so he took it out of the diet two days ago. And, well, actually, just yesterday. And yesterday he had such a good day. It was very different child than we've had for a long time. So we're going to continue on that journey of discovery, of belief, of miracles, of, you know, actually understanding that what you believe in can really shift the energy around you. I was just reading a story. I'm going to put the link below here of the whole story, because it's amazing, of Wilma Rudolph, who in 1960 won three gold medals, and at the time, she also broke world records for running. Now, you will say to yourself, well, she obviously trained really hard, and she was very dedicated, but the miracle in this was that she was supposed to never walk. She had polio when she was a small child, and the doctors had told her that she would never walk. And her mother said to her, you will walk. I believe in you. And it was her mother's dedication to bringing her to the hospital for the physical therapy all the time on the Greyhound bus 40 miles away from Their home. Now this was a woman who had 22 children. Children. And Wilma was the 20th of that 22. And she had no money. They were impoverished. She was a black woman in the 40s. They had to sit at the back of the bus. There was all these prejudice against them. And yet her mother believed in her. And that belief brought Wilma to a point where she could believe in herself. And when she started to believe in herself, miracles started to happen. Her determination made her stronger than anybody else on the team that she ever went on. You know, at first she wasn't picked to be even on the basketball team because she couldn't really play. But the coach watched her and knew that she was the most determined person he on that team. So he led her on. But she sat on the bench most of the time. And eventually she got to the point where when he let her on the court, she was forced to be reckoned with. She put so much practice, so much belief into herself that she could do anything on that court. And was found then by a college to be on their track team even though she'd never run track in her life. And four years before that she was in braces and couldn't walk without the aid of sticks and braces. So just an incredible story again of self belief and also of parents believing in their children. And that's one of the things, you know, with having a special needs child. Society can have preconceived ideas about what the condition of your child is. You know, autism can be seen as devastating. Cerebral palsy can be seen as devastating. Down syndrome can be seen as devastating. Yet there are such miracles in each one of these special needs. There is miracles, there is rewards, there is inspiration, there is incredible heart opening compassion, empathy. Parts of your world change in ways you can't imagine. So I want to leave that thought with you. To believe, to believe in miracles, to believe in your children, to believe in yourself. And the only way you can do that is to have energy for you, to be able to look after you, to nurture you so you have that internal resource to believe. If you are tired, if you're exhausted, if you haven't taken time out for you, it's very hard to believe. It's very hard to find that internal fire, you know, because you're too tired. So it's coming to the weekend. I'm wondering if over the weekend you can find a way to nurture you. Just something small, something simple. Maybe a walk in nature, maybe coffee or tea with a friend, maybe a yoga class. Maybe just a bath. That's one of my favorites. A warm bath, some Epsom salts, a couple of lavender drops in there always restores me. I do one nearly every evening. So what is it that you will do to restore you so that you can be in a place of belief for your child? Have a wonderful and blessed day again. As always, you can contact me at Siobhan at Autism Experts alliance, and you can email me at Siobhan or sorry, you can email me obviously at Siobhan at Autism Experts Alliance. I'm getting goofy now. And you can register for connecting with our teleseminars at autismexpertsalliance. Com and I look forward to connecting with you again soon. Have a wonderful day.
