2013 Stephen Curry Skills Academy Recap

Stephen Curry runs a youth basketball camp where he teaches shooting, ball-handling, and defensive footwork. He hammers home that talent means nothing without relentless hard work and mastery of fundamentals, drilling players on stance, hand positioning, and free throws under fatigue.
Chapters
A slight bend in your knees, but we're just flipping on our ankles all the way down. All right, let's do it. First group, go!
Becoming a great basketball player just doesn't happen. Yeah, we all have God-given talents within us, but if you don't have a desire to work hard and gravitate toward the fundamentals, then being great at what you do won't be an option. [MUSIC] I wanna know, like, what's the one thing you wanna get outta camp this week, and what's the one thing you wanna get better at? I'm putting you on the spot.
Shooting.
Shooting, all right. Defense, ball handling. A lot of ball handling, a lot of defense, a lot of shooting.
1, 2, 3.
Hard work!
There you go.
Keep your eyes up. We're not gonna stare at the ball the whole time, all right?
Pound it low, pound it low. Right hand, right hand. Call Evan's numbers like this. Pound, cross, cross. Pound, cross, cross. Pound, cross, pound, cross.
I might say crossover wide, we rock with it, all right?
All the while keeping the ball below our knees. Good job, good job, good job. Straight up, it should come straight back down to you. Does that make sense? Straight up, straight back down. Straight up, straight back down. Just try to keep it right here, like you're making an L. That's a lot better. You pass it to his outside hand, right there, bang. He catches, he turns, and he passes. Does that make sense? Everything's low, like you're gonna attack. Shot, let's go. Shot, slide, ball, ball, talk, talk, talk. Talk, ball, ball, ball, ball. Touch the ball. Touch the ball. Push yourself. Good. Good. Be loud. Be loud. Communicate. Communicate. Be loud. Yeah, Miles. Miles, keep it. Miles, keep it. Quick, quick, quick, quick, quick. You're starting down in this position. Ankles at 90, knees at 90, hips at 90. You're going up, exploding, throwing your hands. Then you're coming down, landing through your hips and your knees. You gotta make sure you land soft, make as little noise as possible. Explode, land soft. Explode, land soft. 6, 7. 7, 8, 9, 10. Great. Do that exact same jump, just explode. Woo!
To be able to shoot free throws when you're tired, that's a tough thing to do. At the end of the day, to go up to that free throw line and knock down free throws, that's a tough thing. Free throws is a big part of being a good basketball player. It's very surreal. But, you know, I'm blessed to have made it where I have and be able to use that platform to come back and have these kind of camps and kind of give them what I know and just hang out with them. And the experience, I think, for them is the biggest part of it.
I got you. Appreciate the hard work, fellas.
