In this behind‑the‑scenes monologue for his new book, Stephen Curry (Speaker A) vividly recalls the moment his name was called at the NBA draft, shaking hands with then‑Commissioner David Stern and feeling the surreal reality of his dream. He describes the hunger and long wait in the green room before the announcement, the intense atmosphere, and then highlights his early career highlight of winning the NBA Skills Challenge, including a memorable steal from Kobe Bryant. Curry notes how the media repeatedly labeled him as "the most skilled player in the league," a reputation that followed him throughout the season. The passage serves both as a personal anecdote and promotional narrative for his book, emphasizing his work ethic, skill, and the excitement of his early NBA experiences.

It's a moment you dream of, obviously, just in terms of hearing your name called. Like, just that moment of walking on stage and shaking David Stern's hands, and the press conference the next day, like, man, this is actually happening. And I was hungry as an all get-out. Starving. They ain't feed us for like 3 hours. Sitting in the green room, waiting for my name to be called. It was crazy. Got a steal off Kobe right there. I won the skills challenge, and then everybody, that low-hanging fruit joke, "Oh, he's the most skilled player." player in the league. And did that the rest of the season. Every time I came on, I came on, oh look, it's the most skilled player in the league. It's the most skilled player in the league, he's here.
