Oh yeah. Little tight draw right there. It's nice.
Very demure.
Say what?
Very demure.
Very, what's the other one?
Mindful.
Mindful. Goddamn it, I should know all that.
Have you been told the concept of the tux?
Yes, yes, yes.
So rather than put you in like a traditional tux, with the space we're in, I fell in love with this kind of blue. Textured tomboy.
Is that something you've seen before? Right, something I've seen before, absolutely.
I think Dario is just finishing up the trouser, but we can pop, you wanna go next door?
Yeah, I'll go next door.
Or wherever.
Perfect. Thank you very much.
Of course. My name's Deborah Afshani. I am the stylist for this Vanity Fair portfolio shoot. For Steph and Ayesha, we really wanted to capture them and the essence of their relationship and rapport. We decided conceptually to kind of stage them as if they had just been out at a formal night. The two of them having a moment together, relaxed, not posed, and capture that.
Did you have to scout any of the environments before picking out a certain color?
Yes, so they kindly provided us with photos of the space they wanted to be in, and with that in mind, I decided to kind of play off the like, bluish gray in there, the lighter gray, and put Steph in a Tom Ford navy blue velvet textured suit. It felt formal but a little bit less classic, and the texture works beautifully in the space. And Aisha, I've narrowed down, it should be something more tonal, but I will come back to you with where we land.
What about the shoes?
Shoe-wise, they sent me these beautiful navy, which will play color-wise and it's not too matchy with the texture, but will harmonize nicely.
Is that the only outfit he's gonna be in?
As of right now, I think we're at one look. If we do a second one, it will be a white dinner jacket, but TBD.
I hate these buttons.
Huh?
I tried to get the—
Oh, we can help you with this.
Yes, thank you very much. And these too.
Yes, the glamour, the glamour.
It's just— Oh, you don't like cufflinks?
I love cufflinks. I like the way they look. I hate putting them on.
All right, there's that.
There you go. I'll let you go to work.
That's cuz these weren't taken. We might have to fix the length a little bit in, in post-production. Well, yes, and I'm going to fix the shirt.
This length?
Oh yeah. Um, here, Dario, do you want to My name is Dario Smith.
I'm the on-set tailor for the shoot today. I've been working with Steph on his alterations over the past 5 or 6 years. Today, we had to make some adjustments to Steph's trousers, particularly in the length, and make some adjustments to Ayesha's dress in the top section, making sure that it wasn't loose. Part of the process with this is, you know, having worked with Steph for a while now, I pretty much have his measurements dialed in. So it was easy enough to get the pants, measure them, see that they were out of spec, and make some quick adjustments.
What year did you say you started working with him?
I started working with Steph, I believe, in 2018.
He's put on quite a bit of muscle mass since then.
Yes, he has. Luckily in his waist, he's been pretty consistent. Obviously lengths and such don't change, but I try and keep annual or every 6 months update in his sizing just to make sure that if we need something and I can't see him at the time, I can just make the adjustments and ship it back.
[FOREIGN LANGUAGE] Was that for continuity purposes?
It was for credits, just so we can have everything and see all the accessories that he's wearing with the suit.
Listen, I was gonna have you sitting on the ground right here.
Where at?
Right here.
Okay. Just like that. All right. Oh yeah.
Knees tight.
Like that. And you're just gonna—
You gotta go slow.
Like, yeah, perfect.
And you can put your step— Where are you moving your mouth now?
How do you do that?
Oh, fuzzy?
Do you wanna change or do you wanna show something else? That's perfect.
That's exactly what I intended. No, no, no, like seriously, like, do you want to try the— where? That was the most efficient, quickest, easiest. Every shoot should be like that, photo shoot.
If you were to guess how many minutes that was?
12. Is that right? I don't know. I thought you had a timer. I thought you had a timer. And was clocking it. I'm gonna go 12 minutes from the time I sat down on the floor.
What do you think your color is?
I'm gonna go with, what's the, some shade of blue. I'm gonna go with—
Like a midnight?
No, I was gonna say like, yeah.
Like an indigo?
I like indigo blue. I'm gonna go with that.
I will say that jacket you were wearing in that Vegas commercial, That was nice.
That was, yeah. I actually might put on something like that. Actually, I used to have my white, what's it, the Emirates Cup? Is that what they're calling it? Anyway, end season tournament, whatever they're calling it, Emirates Cup. That jacket for the commercial was fire.
They let you keep it?
No, I tried to run off with it, but they snatched it. I have been known to, have clothes vanish from productions, shoots all the time, so.
Dario, change your trousers.
Speaking of, looking for my trousers. There's a thing, Tom Ford told me I could keep any jacket I wore on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that year. I messed up and I was gonna wear all 8 jackets on set at the same time. And be like, they told me I can keep anything that I wore on set, so I wore all of them, but I chickened out, I only wore one of them.
That's only for the interview?
That was only for the interview. I had a pure opportunity and I missed it. But, shoot 2 coming up soon.
Ayesha threw out the idea of what if she's just in a tux shirt of his and then We kind of moved from there, and instead of that, he will be in his tux but just without the jacket, and she will just have the jacket on. So that'll be fun.
Nah, it's better when you're a little forward.
Mm-hmm. Beautiful, beautiful.
Thank you. Don't let your eyes kind of fall down like they're looking at the camera. Thank you.
Beautiful.
Now you gotta strike a pose.
Freeze. What's up, buddy? What's up, my clean-smelling good buddy? What's up? What's up?
What's the origin story of Blue's name?
Blue was a birthday gift for Cannon when he was 2. That is not correct, when he was 4. And obviously he's brown and got those little white patches, but his eyes were blue. We were trying to figure out names and Cannon, came up with Blue, we put it in a hat, and that's what we pulled out. So we stuck with Blue. Unfortunately, his eye color changed.
What is it currently?
It's kind of like a, like a almost brownish, but it's like a deep, somewhere in between deep blue and brown. But they were like translucent blue, it was kind of crazy.
Do you remember any of the other potential names that he could have been?
I don't. That's a good thing because he is blue to us through and through. That's my guy. And he's actually on that basketball right there. That's Rez. Rez passed about 3 months ago. So we had Rez and Blue for a while. Rez forever memorialized there and on that basketball. But now we just got Blue. He was a beautiful, Labradoodle. He lived for almost 12 years. And Blue is soon to be 3, or he's like 2 and a half. He'll be 3 in May. So big dog people over here. Big dog people. So that is the end of a beautiful Monday morning right after a big win in Oklahoma City. Vanity Fair shoot. Me and Ayesha at the crib. Thankfully they made it easy on us coming into our home, doing the shoot. We got dressed up for a little bit, did a couple interviews, and now it's time to go drink some pleasures and then family time after that. So solid Monday, solid off day. That's a wrap. Appreciate y'all tuning in.
Bonus footage. This video won't drop until 3 months from now.
What?
On your channel. What do you anticipate happening in 3 months? Months. Actually, technically 4 months.
The All-Star Weekend?
Oh, that would have passed. I think this is releasing in March.
What would have happened in March? That birthday, March 14th. Ooh, maybe, maybe we're on the same page. Maybe talking about a number of 3s that I might hit. Is that— we're on the same page? Mm-hmm. Trying to go for 4,000. See how that goes. I don't know what number I'm at right now. I'm not like keeping a daily count or anything. But that is a number I never thought was possible, so we'll see how it goes. A lot of games left, but come springtime, hopefully we got something to celebrate.
