Stephen Curry & Bryson DeChambeau Link Up To Break 50 On The Golf Course - Behind The Scenes

Stephen Curry and Bryson DeChambeau train together and set a goal to break 50 on the golf course. Curry runs the Underrated Golf Tour, a mentorship program that supports 75 Division-I golfers out of 120 participants. They discuss how basketball shooting mechanics translate to golf swing execution.

Same do you do though.
But okay, that's not— that is not the same thing.
On the course, I'm sure.
I know, but still, like—
I mean, dude, let's go!
Just— we're working on the first 45 smaller and we're not touching the weight.
It's just shit time for it.
Oh, good. More balance, more of those movements. Um, you comfortable with like RDLs from any deadlifts?
Yeah.
Split squats, fine.
Yeah, yeah.
If we're going through this, there's no like if anything is technically different, we can modify it. We got a little ground-based pull that we do almost every day. Kind of follow steps right here. We're going to start at 90-90, finish at that—
The old man stretch is what we call it.
I am not leg flexible, as in like, I'm flexible with my upper body, but my legs are like posts.
Sit into it so it gets into that pocket, and then you're just going to pull a little bit. So as you pull, And then come back, drive. We're just gonna do about 6 of those, just get a little bit of extra rotation. [FOREIGN LANGUAGE] Good, then we're gonna go right back to the high plank. Front leg's up here, and just full rotation towards me, yep. Keep the tension in the band. Yeah, come back.
Pitch forward just a little bit.
Pitch forward. There you go, yep. That's good. All right, that's just so fluid on that side.
Right rotation.
Right, Phil?
Yeah. There we go. That's lightweight.
What do you have them working out today?
We did some core, some balance, some glute activation. Now we're going to push some iron.
Yes, sir!
Yes, sir! Yes, sir!
We use cluster sets a lot because you can get volume and strength in like 6 minutes. Yeah, yeah.
You know? It's great.
We're gonna work right into it.
Yeah.
He's gonna do a reverse L-sit, let's call it the 3-second boss.
Sure.
Where's Logan when you need him?
I know. Kawhi, man.
Tum.
Little positive face there.
Tum, this is for you, dog.
For Luke?
I know we're not together anymore, but—
Oh.
Big guards, baby. I'm on the other side of the weight rack. You know where these weights are.
Come on.
You know where they are. How many did you say, Birdie?
We're gonna go 5.
5 and 5. Benchmark is 4 sets.
That was always a joke. Toon had the big weights on one side of the rack, everybody else on the other side of the rack, and then when I graduated to the 80s and up, he welcomed me with open arms.
That's right.
Shout out to Tim Roberts.
There you go. Now you're just warming up.
2 more. Go! That's your best set, rep.
Yes, down, down and rack. Up.
One more.
All right, now you got it. And rack it. Good, so then we come here. I'm still the highest. Just kidding, that wasn't me, that was right here. So we come here, we look. This is just for wattage. You can look at different variables, but your peak wattage there was 784.
12:34.
Let's go!
That was so close.
That was awesome.
Freaking—
Hey, Tony.
Golf.
Freaking golf.
Golf. I tried, Tony. I tried.
Sweet.
So I, on a whim, I was like, this makes so much sense. I want to share this space with somebody.
Appreciate that.
Thank you.
If you would be the first to sign my officially made up at like 10 minutes ago wall.
Okay.
Anywhere like—
Oh, sick. In this little section.
All right.
And we'll kind of memorialize the day.
Yes, sir.
Thank you, sir.
There you go.
It's not a bad spot.
No, it's a good place.
I'll take it. It started in basketball. We were looking for 3-star recruits, basically like looking for the next—
Yeah.
Giving them an opportunity, chasing Division I scholarships. Then transitioned into golf.
Yeah.
So now we have the Underrated Golf Tour.
That's awesome.
So— Remember seeing that as opportunity. How many years? We just finished 4.
4.
So we just had our finale event at Liberty National.
Sick.
It's unbelievable.
And how many kids have you sent to college?
75 kids have come through our program that are now playing Division I golf.
That's awesome.
And we service about 120 kids total throughout each tour, and then the finale event, we get 30, both on the boys and girls side.
Dude, that's sick. Hats off to you, man.
That's so inspirational to me. I appreciate it, man. We got some gear for you.
That's awesome.
Home represent, buddy.
Yes, sir.
That's sick. And then we're gonna break 50. Yes, we are tomorrow. Tomorrow, let's do it.
At hole 1. It was last year, right?
You made the— Last year, yeah.
That's sick.
2 years ago, sorry.
2 years ago, okay, that was sick. So for years—
23.
Gotcha.
His first MVP trophy is at one of his houses. It's like, it was just in the garage. Yeah, like in the garage, like just all cobwebs.
You wanna tell 'em? Yeah, Bryson's like that too.
I don't, I just set my trophies I've got nothing to—
it's not disrespect, I know where they are, but—
It sounds like the most important thing. No, no, no.
Your son's important. I'm here for this. Blanket from Tahoe back home. So you, have you played basketball?
I played as a 7th grader and was pretty solid. My brother played a lot. He was really good. High school and then went into the Army. Basketball's kind of in our blood. My dad was a McDonald's All-American.
For real?
Yes.
I never knew that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So he was really good at basketball growing up and then turned to golf. I can see it's already perfect when it's a big shot.
Yeah. There's a—
I just see it. How does that—
Can you see a little bit more art?
How?
You remember you talking about your speed training stuff and like, you're stronger than him, but you can hit it farther. Yeah. It's just time, like the efficiency of everything, balance to the timing of when I get it up to here to release the wrist, like everything, I get everything out of this.
How do you practice? Do you practice different angles of shot or?
Different angles of shot, body positions, feet position. You do different arc.
Yes, that's what I'm interested in is like, how do you know how to shoot it?
That's how it just feel. Same thing, I mean, I'm sure it's the same vibe of like, you look at a short game shot, it's—
Yeah, you know how to do it.
100 people could look at it 100 different ways, but for you it's—
Yeah, it's just boom, I know, I see it and like, okay, this is what I have to do.
Yeah, second nature. So like, that's the same thing, like, you just threw me a ball anywhere and I just found it. Muscle memory takes over and then like all the mechanics are just—
How many hours have you practiced?
Woo!
I know, that's the crazy thing. I have no way to count.
All day, every day since you were 10?
Not a shot, I broke it down to like, how many shots have I taken in my life? We've been trying to do this math for a long time, just like get a ballpark of is it like north of like $2 million? Yeah. Or like somewhere above or below that? And just 'cause you've been playing since I was 5, NBA season, I'm working out 300 days a year. You're getting probably 300 shots on average a day. So then you can start to do that math up.
Yeah.
I go cross-eyed 'cause I can't do that math. We're getting used to that. Get in there!
That was great.
But it's the same, like the—
I just— it doesn't come off my fingers.
What I try to tell people to start is when— no matter how you shoot, and you, Chase, you had a little bit of it, I try to get them to spin the ball as much as you can.
Really?
I don't care if you miss it 10 feet short. I just want to see people have the confidence to be able to, like, literally do that.
I don't got the most supple wrist, all right?
Come closer though. The only other thing is when you do it the first time, I try to get ring finger and index finger in one of those seams.
Oh, okay.
It'll help you, yeah.
So help you flick it. Ah, okay.
That's where— Yeah, otherwise it's kind of, it's a little slippery, yeah.
That's crazy.
And I would just tell you to do that like 100 times from the free throw line and just spin it as much as you can.
Hold up.
And do you have enough time to line it up?
That's the other part, like you slow down my shot. Somebody did it where like I catch a pass and then from here to when it goes up, there's like a subtle, like almost let go of it.
Shit.
So no matter where I catch it, so if I catch it like this, I'll do that and almost get it there by the time it gets here.
That's unbelievable.
So I didn't know I was doing it, to be honest, until like a couple years ago. Do you have a thought whenever you're shooting? Or is this just all muscle memory? It's all balance. I was trying to do— I catch it. If I can feel balanced in my feet, then everything kind of takes over from there. If for whatever reason I don't get the leverage off the ground, then I know I have— my percentage just went way down. I might get lucky every once in a while, but if I come here and I don't have equal pressure and feel a strong base before I go up, then that's, I guess the mindset there is like, "Uh-oh." Something's wrong. And then you're trying to make up for it. Then it feels like you gotta have some luck involved. 100%. But if I get here, that's why I started doing the turn away thing.
Yeah.
'Cause once I have it here, everything else is automatic. No matter if you're guarding, no matter how close you are. Yeah, right here. No matter what happened before, I get to here, and I feel so grounded. There's no reason I should miss. I haven't got my, uh, my NBA lines down yet, so I have no idea where I'm at.
Okay, okay, so there you go. So you've got like lines that you practice?
I used to, but like, that's the thing about field. I don't want to be out here too long, or I wouldn't shoot on the court without lines for too long.
Because that's like your reference.
100%. Oh my goodness.
Good to see you. Good morning. Good to see you too. You doing all right?
Fantastic.
How'd you sleep?
Uh, like a champ.
Good, that's what I love hearing. I love it. What we got here?
Black on the white.
Okay, where do you want that?
Anywhere on the side.
Yeah, right there's good.
That's perfect.
How many signatures have you done in your life?
It has to be, uh, silver for sure.
Okay.
That's what 500,000. 500,000. Definitely not more than you've shot a basketball at.
No, no, not that. You gotta keep those skills, right?
That's right.
You gotta be on that. How was the session just in there?
It was great. We were down there at the bottom. Perfect weather, by the way.
It is, it's great. So I'm going right now. Got a little 6 iron here. Try it out. The freaking grips.
No, dude.
When did you start this?
Like— 2011. Long time ago.
14 years.
Just stripe them. Just stripe little cutties.
We're coming down to break 50.
Let's go, baby. Break 50 time.
[FOREIGN LANGUAGE] So Rico, baby, let's go. Let's go!
Golf is making sense today. Let's just put it that way. It doesn't mean it's every day, but today it's making sense. Take a look at this.
