What up, what up? So I'm headed around the Bay Area to check in on some local small businesses to see how they're starting back up now that the country's getting back open. Let's get it done. [MUSIC] All right, me and my guy Rez, he's a black Labradoodle. He's been locked up in the house pretty much for the last 14 months like everybody else. We gotta get my man ready to re-enter the world. Ain't that right, Rez? Ain't that right, Rez?
Everybody get a chance to shine. You ain't gotta be a rock or a tree this time.
You can read.
Hey, Stephen, welcome to Bow Wow Meow.
Appreciate it, man. I brought my friend here. I brought my guy, Rez.
We saw a growth in pet ownership. If anything, COVID accentuated the importance of pets in people's lives.
So now you take the comb.
Ah, there it is. There it is.
Not much to it. I know what you can do when you retire.
You know what? I might be on to something.
2021 does feel feel like a fresh start. Hopefully people will have a newfound appreciation for their small local businesses and what they bring to their communities.
My dog. I don't get flowers enough for my wife, but probably should find a spot I can go do it with my own two hands. Maybe that'll make it a little bit more special. What's up, family? Hi, how are you? Can I hug you?
Absolutely.
Oh my gosh.
Good to see you.
I know you're married. That's okay.
Oh, it's okay.
Osam is a multigenerational company. We've been in the Bay Area since 1937.
My mom is gonna help you here, and she's been designing flowers for a long time.
I cut it for you and you put it in, okay?
Okay, I'm sticking it wherever I want? Yeah. Hey, you're good. That's point guard vision right there.
The pandemic with the lockdown has changed all businesses. Closing the business allowed us time to think of how to pivot when we reopen.
Hey, we got some flowers! We got some flowers for the wife, let's go! It's the off-season now, so I got a little chance to spoil my wife. I'm gonna spoil myself. Antoine's Cookies. I'm gonna see if I can convince them to let me finish some cookies myself. What's happening?
Hey, how's it going, Stephen?
Man, it smells unbelievable.
It's great. Yeah, we just, cookies just came out of the oven. My name's Antoine Tang. I started my business in 2013. Cookie dough is much more dense than ice cream, so it's gonna be a little hard to scoop. Okay, you grab that. Can you give me another scoop for myself? What we wanna do is we wanna hit 55 grams. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna try and get 55 points here. 55 points, sure, sure, you've done that. What makes me optimistic about going into the future is how we've been able to make it through 2020 and that the customers still came to our store. We want to give you a box of snickerdoodles.
Can I try one right quick?
Try one right now. Mm-hmm.
Look at that. Look at that.
Oh.
Give these to the family.
I appreciate you, boss.
Hey, man.
Have a good one.
Thank you very much, man.
Thanks for coming. Mm.
All right, today was fun. We hit up a lot of small businesses here in the Bay Area to see how they bringing the energy and bringing things back to normal, so— I'll check out later.
