Chapters
For decades as an instructor over at TCU, Bill set a very high bar.
He believed in the work that he did. He believed that it had meaning and purpose, and he always believed that he was working for the greater good.
Anybody who's worked with Bill or had him as a teacher or a coworker understands that just being in Bill's orbit affects you.
Gallion is more than a professor to me. He's a mentor, he's a friend, someone that'll always pick up the phone, and he knows how to push you beyond just being a designer. He pushes you to be a good thinker.
Bill takes no shortcuts, and Bill really cares about the students and that they do it right, not about just checking the box and moving on. And that, that's important to him, and that's kind of rubbed off on me.
Would inspire students as much as he would critique them. And he would drive them to be their best.
I consider Bill one of the most important and influential art directors that I've ever had the good fortune to work with. Without Bill's support and encouragement, I know that I never would have had the confidence as a 23-year-old to move to New York.
To witness firsthand the warmth and the empathy and the— just the optimism and the joy that he continues to pour into the students year after year, class after class, and then to see their enthusiasm and their confidence be built up because of the impact that he has had on those students and in that classroom is really, really a joy to behold.
Well, Bill, as much as he inspired his students, he inspired me to teach. In fact, I have no problem telling you that Bill's my hero.
One of the funniest things I've ever heard about Bill Gallien was also a comment from Alan Legee. who describes Bill as seeing the world through a bowl of gumbo. It's full of flavor, a little heat, and always better when people gather around.
Bill can sit down with an 18-year-old undergraduate, the dean of the college, Stan Richards, Donald Trump, or anyone else and leave the meeting with a solid and lasting relationship.
Bill Man, I can't think of anybody who deserves this more than you do, 100 times over. You deserve this award, and, and congratulations, not just from me, but I think I can speak for every student that you ever had. Big congratulations.

He has been and continues to be an inspiration to generations of students. He's still teaching, and he's been like a brother to me. I hope to be just like him when I grow up.
No one is more deserving of this award, and I'm very, very lucky that for those 55 years I've remained very close to Bill and Leanne. I am one Very lucky guy. Mazel tov, Bill, and thank you.
