Chapters
Karen's like actually an icon.
Karen is a consummate professional, and she's an incredible craftsperson.
We used to call her the mom of comm design.
Karen was our drill sergeant, our therapist, the nurse. I think she told me once that my color palette looked like a 1980s sofa cushion. She would balance that with humor and nurturing and encouragement as well.
I, like many students, Students got to experience the, the cheerleader side of Karen, but also the coach side.
If you put in the effort, Karen would return it tenfold, and I think a lot of us found our voice as designers having her as professor. She's also really good at looking at the big picture while noticing all the details.
There are lessons that I learned from her class that I use on a daily basis.
Karen is kind of like my guiding inner voice for anything publication design.
Karen had this wit about her that was Karen was dry and somewhat sarcastic, and she would say things that would have the whole group kind of laugh, and she had a really interesting insight.
Karen is a pillar of design education. She's an absolute legend. Karen was honestly the reason I finished my degree at all. Pretty much every semester she would gently talk me down from trying to quit the program.
Karen taught me that there's nothing life can throw your way that strong booze and good pie can't help you overcome.
While she may have been the toughest teacher I had, she's also the one that I really truly improved upon my skills the most with. I think she's truly like a living legend that has just made more budding legends in the community.
Karen is an exceptional teacher because she sees the strengths in each individual student. She'll remember different projects from several years ago in perfect detail.
She is one of the best at what she does, and she strives for all of her students to have the best outcome. and be the best designer they can be.
A little intimidating at first, but once you get past that shell, she is a bear. She is so sweet, she is very supportive, but she also lays it on you hard when you need it.
Karen's contribution to our program has been invaluable, both as a teacher and as someone who shaped our curriculum over the 20 years that, that she taught there. She has an incredible sense of style and detail and concept. This award is very well deserved. Congrats and cheers!
