Why you don’t have successful friends… here’s how to get them

Most people fail to network with successful people because they approach it as pure taking. Build something valuable first, even on a small budget, and you'll naturally end up in the same rooms as high-net-worth individuals. Reciprocity and genuine desire matter more than motivation.

We've all heard the saying, your network is your net worth. And while that's 100% true, you're never going to get the chance to network with those kinds of people that have greater net worth than you if you don't understand this key principle. Now, why even listen to me? Because I've built a 7-figure business in the content creation agency world, and the only way I did this was through this exact principle that I'm going to be telling you about on this video. I've gotten loads of DMs, people trying to network with me or have a cup of coffee, or the famous quote, let me pick your brain. And I never give them the time of day. And it's not just me. Ask any successful person how many people have tried to approach them to pick their brain. They never give these people the time of day. Reason being is because these kinds of people are missing the most critical information that is applicable to all of life. There is no such thing as a take without a give, and giving someone a cup of coffee is not an actual give. Now, the best way to actually network with these kinds of people that you aspire to be is to actually build something first. In fact, In fact, if you build something by default, you'll actually end up networking with these people on accident just because of necessity. Now, when networking becomes a symptom of work, then that network is worth having. So the way that I have been successful in my industry is by building something first. I built my content creation agency first, and from my content creation agency, I ended up in these networking events. I ended up in these locations with clients. I ended up— I never seeked. I built something valuable first, and when I ended up in those locations, the conversations were able to go past a handshake. You see, if you go to a networking event and you don't have anything built, you'll meet these people and you'll network with them, but it'll only go as far as a handshake. If you want it to go beyond a handshake and maybe a phone number or maybe some type of pick your brain environment, the only way to do that is to have something worth them wanting to pick your brain about. Because if you are trying to just network with people, chances are you are extremely self-centered and selfish, thinking that they should give you the time of day. No one owes you anything. And in fact, if you want anything from anyone, you must give them something first. It's one of the key principles to becoming successful. There's no such thing as a take without a give. This is why a service-based business like myself or any business out there gives the consumer something first. Imagine saying, give me the money first and I'll I'm going to do something later. It doesn't work that way. So why would you think that you get the chance to network with people when you haven't done anything yourself? And there's a simple remedy to this. If you want to go to these events and you want to level yourself up, you want to increase your net worth, that's fine. You don't need a massively successful business. You just need something interesting that you've already made happen, even if it's done basically no money, it's done no revenue. As long as it's tangible and it's outside of the concept of an idea, then you have a big chance of actually being able to network. There's a great quote out there and it nails it perfectly: "If you want to network, build something first. The network will appear." And I probably butchered it, but it's something along those lines. And it's the most valid thing to this day. And I see it time in and time out, people trying to network with people vastly more accomplished than them, thinking that they owe it to them to network with them. They don't owe you anything. You have actually done nothing for yourself. Why would someone else do something for you? Doesn't work that way. Now, I know I'm being a little bit direct and probably even a little bit harsh, but that's okay. It's something that people need to hear if you're in that position, trying to have an extended arm to increase your net worth. And if you actually can listen to this without being insulted or offended, then you might actually build something and you might end up in the same circles of people with net worths that you wish to have one day. So build something. It doesn't have to be something that has tons of employees or millions of dollars in revenue. It just needs to be something tangible that when you talk to them, it can be found interesting and you can actually show them. It could be presentable and they could actually potentially even use it. Networking is way more valuable when the people you're networking with can actually potentially be a client rather than somebody that's just going to do something for you. And now with the rise of AI, you can make something pretty much in like a week if you really dedicated yourself to make something. The problem is you'll probably never do that because you don't have the desire to. You just want to hand out. And if you found yourself in the shoes of wanting to network with people and not being able to, then you're probably wearing those shoes and you should start finding desire in your life. You need to feel uncomfortable. You need to look yourself in the mirror and realize that you are not who you think you are or who you want to be, and you're going to make massive change. And the only way change is invoked into someone is through immense desire, not motivation and not discipline. In fact, I made an entire video on it. If you haven't watched it, click it right up above. Now, if you want to level yourself up, subscribe to this channel because I go over all the ways I have found success in my very own life and in my clients' lives. And if you think you can extract value from these lessons, then it would be a shame that you missed out on the next one. Thanks for watching.
