The Patriots released Stefon Diggs after he refused a pay cut. At 32 with a $26 million contract, the team couldn't afford to keep him despite his strong play that helped them reach the Super Bowl.

Damn, y'all. Stephon fired. You know what's so funny? I was on the phone. I was on the phone with a friend of mine yesterday. Not a friend, somebody I work with, right? And I said, I got a feeling that he's about to get cut. I just— with all the bad publicity around him, and, you know, I saw him get arraigned and he pled not guilty. But I felt like with, you know, what, what should have been a monumental, a monumental moment was taken over by mess, and I had nothing to do nothing to do with that, by the way. Nothing to do with it, okay? I am not in the bedroom of any of these people. I just do my news, okay? If they don't do things, I don't have news. You feel me? I don't have news. There's people I've never reported on because they don't do anything. So yeah, anyway, so back to Stephon. So he was released, uh, by the Patriots. Uh, well, he's due to be released. Um, and so here's what happened, because I don't want any wrong information out there. They asked him to take a pay cut. They asked him to take a pay cut, he said no. So he actually chose to be released. So, and nah, I would say he's not fired, he's choosing to leave. And so hopefully another team will pick him up. But the problem is because of his contract, they wanted to cap it due to his age. He's 32 years old, you know, yeah, he came back and, you know, played well this year. I'm not a football fan, but according to y'all, you know, football fans and stuff like that, he actually had a great year to lead the team all the way up to the Super Bowl. But the $26 million contract plus more, I mean, that was a lot for them, right? And so they're thinking like, we're probably not going to get that same performance. And so I was told personally that a lot of players got cut, okay? So we're not just being biased against like Stefon Diggs and everything. I don't have no reason to be biased against him anyway, but I'm just saying like, that's kind of what happened. It was politics and it was money.
