A monologue comparing Mark Curry and Dave Chappelle, exploring what it costs comedians to stay true to themselves versus compromise. The speaker argues authenticity matters more than safety, even when the price is high.
Do you know who Mark Curry is? Have you heard of Mark Curry? Yeah. Oh, Mark Curry was on the show, hanging with Mr. Cooper. This is like back in the 90s, Apple bowl comedian enough liked, but not necessarily a superstar these days, right? Heard of Dave Chappelle before? Yes. Huge mega superstar. Offends a lot of people, though. He said what's on his mind and what I said to myself was like, end of the day, I'd rather be Dave Chappelle than Mark Curry. And it is soul sucking to hold back this part of my personality that is so true and is so ingrained in me and has made me the person that I am. Like a lot of people died for me to become the person I am legit. My son, my brother, my father, my grandfather, all those people died for me to become the person I am, shape who I am. Why would I do them this service of holding that back and just acting cheery and affable all the time on social media?
