This is a YouTube video titled "To Perform or not to Perform w/Ashley Kirkwood #shorts" containing a discussion featuring Ashley Kirkwood and another speaker. The conversation revolves around speaking styles, particularly the balance between delivering straightforward knowledge versus performing to engage an audience. The content was created in May 2023.
I obviously spoke at your event in Chicago a few months back and as I was getting mic'd up, the person said, what kind of speaker are you? Are you like a fire breathing preacher or are you more of an Obama? I'm like, give me the Obama, like give me the whatever that is Obama.
Package, please.
Yeah, because I'm very stoic, I'm very blunt. You'll get like, you know, some dry humor, but I'm not like, you know, overly animated. So what I'm asking you is because other people out there listening right now might feel the same way. They're like, I want to speak, but I don't want to perform form. Is there a disadvantage to being the person who's just delivering straight knowledge? Even if it is, you know, using, you know, evidence based, you know, selling and, and, you know, storytelling? Do you think some get rewarded more than others or does it matter?
I feel like as long as you're true to yourself, the audience will be, will be fine with you as long as you've considered them. So. One of the reasons why I like performing isn't because I personally like to perform, but it's because I know that it'll keep the audience awake and engaged. If they're engaged, you can change their mind and their heart, but if they're asleep, you can't.
