Terry Rice argues we obsess over standards for coffee and playlists but ignore them for health, relationships, and business. The real problem isn't motivation, it's that we haven't decided what we won't tolerate anymore.
Chapters
You'll have standards for your coffee order, but not for your calendar. You'll have standards for your Spotify playlist, but not for who gets access to your time. You'll have standards for your Instagram aesthetic, but not for your actual life. You've got standards for everything that doesn't matter, and zero for the stuff that actually does. Maybe the problem isn't that you need more motivation. Maybe so you don't have enough of a floor that you won't fall through. What if you asked what is the minimum I refuse to accept in my health, my relationships, my business, my peace? What am I tolerating right now that I swear I would never tolerate? You get the life that you tolerate. And if you're tolerating misalignment, mediocrity, and misery, that's not a motivation problem. That's a standards problem.
