Lauren Maillian talks about raising kids alone after her ex-husband disappeared from their lives, then finding support from her current husband. She describes the weight of handling everything by herself, financially and emotionally, and how that changed when she had a partner who actually showed up.
When I say I was a single mom, you know, a lot of people assume like oh there's some child support there, there's some support in general and there was no support. There was no parental support, there was no you know, involvement at all from my ex husband. As you know, I'm married to an awesome guy now today who has absolutely come in and picked up, you know, more than the slack he's come in and been, you know, the figure and the influence that we all hoped for. My parents included myself, my kids, my parents included. But those years in between, those eight and a half years in between when I was full on single mom were insanely difficult because I was doing all of the parenting. I was doing all of the at home parenting, all of the at school, all of the you know, read the books, do the sight words, all, all the things plus I was entirely financially responsible for my children.
