This is a YouTube video titled "Why is Mindfulness and Meditation Important? #shorts" containing a monologue or talk from June 28, 2022, discussing meditation techniques, mindfulness practice challenges, and the benefits of training focus and discipline. The speaker shares personal reflections and advice on handling distractions and emotional reactions during meditation.
There's a concern where it's like, you've tried meditation, you tried mindfulness, so on and so forth, and it didn't work. That does not mean there's something wrong with you. It means you might want to try a different tactic. So instead of just breathing, maybe you try some kind of single focus where you keep on repeating the same thing over and over again in your head, right? So try it out. There's no one way to do it, right? And then often, sometimes when I'm meditating, I'm distracted. Like, I'm lucky if I can put, like, two breaths together without being distracted. That's part of the skill, though, right? Is bringing yourself back once you are distracted. It's like a flex when you do that. So don't get down on yourself, or you feel like, oh, my head's all over the place. I don't know what I'm doing. That's part of it. You're training focus, and you're training discipline. And yes, it will take a few weeks to kick in, but once it does, you just realize it, right? I remember I was at this game recently, a football game, and some kids behind me spilled a beer on my jacket. And I'm like, I should be annoyed right now. That was definitely annoying. But I'm going to let it go because I was once that annoying college kid. And that is what it is, right? So you'll realize these things are just manifesting in a way that just kind of creeps up on you over time.
