Dr. Michael Gervais explains why your brain defaults to survival mode instead of high performance. Your evolutionary programming prioritizes staying alive over mastery, so you have to deliberately upgrade your thinking to move beyond those basic instincts.
Your brain is trying to keep you alive and it's not optimized for high performance, it's not optimized for flourishing, it's not optimized for mastery, it's not optimized for just about anything other than keeping you alive. And it's such a strong programming because you're a great great great great great great great grandmother and grandfather pass this programming down to you. They've navigated adversity in a really special way for us to be here. Some people have more adversity in their history than others and so and to them I say more resilience. So they figured this thing out. And until you invest in your software that runs the hardware. So if the brain is the hardware, it doesn't quite hold up this way from a academic standpoint. But just for ease, here is if your brain is the hardware and your mind is the software, until you invest in your software and upgrade it in a meaningful way, the brain will win.
