The Coaching That Turned My Nerves into Confidence

Speaker A credits intensive coaching and a peer-support WhatsApp group with building their confidence for NHS interviews. Personalized practice sessions, often late at night with staff like Becky Platt, helped them show up as a person, not just a résumé. They urge others to join for the academy's caring culture.

You don't understand, like, I'm sure you train like, you know, millions of people and it makes a huge individual difference to somebody's life actually. So it's much more than just a course. For me as a person, I like to have that sort of slow build it into layers and I like that sort of layered learning process. I've always been like that and I think that's really nice about this Academy. The fact that you guys give us so much time is just unbelievable. I mean, Becky Platt's been, I think, sort of, I've been talking to her more and I was just telling her all the time like, you guys always have time for us. Like, I don't know how you do it, but— and the practice sessions, like, I remember I think I put the first one on the cohort and I was at 2 in the morning, and, you know, it's just nice that people were— by 6 or 7 o'clock I got a response saying, yeah, this is what— So it's, it's really nice that, you know, you feel like, uh, there's people listening to you. And sometimes it's, it's such terrible answers, and I myself listening to it know that, but then it's just That time that you give to people, I don't think any course does that. Any academy does that. I can write it. I give it to you in writing. Nobody has that much time invested into your delegates. It's that small messages like, you know, all the best, do well, and you know, all of that. It really matters when you're in that position, like to listen and to see that people remember you, like, and your academy remembers you. I don't think that's common. So yeah, I would, it's really nice. It's commendable. The fact that I was out of touch clinically, so all of that I got was from the academy. I didn't really, I looked at all the documents that the Academy suggested, I looked at the practice sessions, I looked at other people, what were they doing, and it was nice to build our own little cohorts. Like, you know, we had like, we have now got a WhatsApp group with Pem, you know, new week consultants. It's nice to build your own cohort as well, which, you know, you have similar problems or you don't.
So, you know. Yeah.
And that's quite nice. So that peer support is quite nice. It streamlines you, I think that's really important. So because like you keep saying, you can read and read and read and read, like it's It's never-ending.
It is, yeah.
Yeah, so I think that was hard on Matcliff to, you know, for me to do all of that by myself would have been so hard. Like, I would have had no clue where to start, where to finish. So yeah, definitely useful, definitely. I was relieved, I think the first thing was relieved. And then when they said nice things, it's nice to hear, you know, how they liked you during the interview. And I personally thanked the panel later on as well individually. And, you know, the feedback—
That's fantastic.
gave, which is, which is really nice, like, to see that they are— they saw through my passion and my, you know, as me as a person, which is, I think, really what they are after, to see you as a person as well and how you fit into their team. At the end of the day, how much ever NHS and documents I quote, at the end of the day, I think they want to see you as that— are you that person who will fit into with us? That, that's probably the underlying thing factor.
Oh, that sounds amazing. That's about as good as you could ever have hoped for. What? How nice. Great feedback. You showcased who you were. They wanted you for you. That's yeah. That's the best.
I said say yes, yes, yes. Please join the academy. There is no doubt about you have to join the academy. Absolutely. Oh, I can't tell you. I mean, I already said you guys are all brilliant. Like the amount even if even if nothing else, the fact that you care and you will do anything in your capacity to help is. is good enough. I think that, that talks volumes of what an academy you are.
