2 April 2025

This is a YouTube video titled "2 April 2025" containing a personal monologue by a single speaker discussing their ultra racing background and their upcoming participation in the Flawed Hero Marathon and related endurance events to raise money for pancreatic cancer research and mental health initiatives. The speaker explains the challenge details, fundraising goals, and personal motivations for the event.
Hi there. For those of you that know me, you'll know that I'm known predominantly for my ultra racing and the various races that I've DWorld, including a number of Ironman triathlons in various parts of the world. And more recently I've competed in the Race Across America four times. Once as a four person team and then more recently post the fourth four person team effort. I then cycled across America in three consecutive solo races, going faster each year. Now for a lot of those races, I did raise money for various charities. This year I'm raising money for pancreatic cancer and helping them fund their research into creating a test, a breath test actually, that will allow people to detect pancreatic cancer much earlier on and be able to get those patients treated. The challenge with pancreatic cancer is that it's a silent killer. When you actually get diagnosed, it's pretty much too late for most of those people. Although having said that, of course there are some people that are quite lucky. They get diagnosed and they get treated and there's no issue. But for most people, once you get diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, then the outlook is not particularly great. So this year I'm doing, I'm taking part in the Flawed Hero Marathon which is on the 26th of April. And the, the marathon itself starts at midnight. So the idea is that all the people that are running, walking, jogging, the Flawed Hero Marathon are going to get that finished before the London Marathon starts the following morning at half past eight in London. Now to make things a little bit more interesting, someone, a friend of mine, has laid down the challenge to do a 2.4 mile swim and 112 mile bike ride before the marathon starts on midnight on the 26th of April. So it's not an official Ironman race as such. I'm going to swim the 2.4 miles at my local David Lloyd Club in Bushy and then cycle 112 miles with another friend of mine who is also doing the Floor Hero marathon. So we're both going to be doing the 2.4 mile swim and then we're going to be doing 112 miles on the bike and then finishing it off with marathon, the Flawed Hero Marathon which as I said starts at midnight on 26 April, finishing before the London Marathon competitors hear the gun go off the following morning. So it's, it's a weird one for me because actually I struggle to ask for support when raising money, but this is not money for me. It's not money for me to do the event. I've paid my entry fee myself for this event, so I'm not looking to try and coup back money. This is about money that will go to pancreatic cancer to, as I said, help research the breath test that they're looking to try and launch. And also money will go towards the Flawed Hero marathon to help run the marathon itself, you know, the whole logistics and all the rest of it. So a small amount of that money will go towards the admin side of the Flawed Hero movement, which is actually all about mental health and well being within the community. So the intention is that that will continue to grow, which it has already Last year I did the Flawed Hero Marathon at midnight, probably one of the trickiest marathon races I've ever done because of the time and also it gets really freezing cold at night here in the uk the community. So the intention is that that will continue to grow, which it has already. Last year I did the Floor Hero marathon at midnight, probably one of the trickiest marathon races I've ever done because of the time and also it gets really freezing cold at night here in the uk. So please take a moment, have a listen to this video and you know, 5, 10 pounds is more than enough if everyone digs their hand in their pocket and thinks okay, well it's a maybe a cappuccino or a couple of cappuccinos towards a very worthwhile charity or charities I should say. So I look forward to posting another video at some point after I've completed, just to remind you that I finished it. I've done the 2.4 mile swim, I've done the 112 mile bike ride and then I will have done the Flawed Hero Marathon at midnight. So I'm grateful already in advance for your generosity and take care and I'll check in with you again, post the event. Bye for now.
