A motivational talk built around Voltaire's quote about accepting life's cards and playing them well. The speaker reflects on personal growth and overcoming adversity, pushing viewers to challenge themselves in the year ahead.
Hi there. Welcome to this week's inspirational quote. This week's quote comes from Voltaire, who was born in Paris, France, back in 1694, and he was France's one of France's most prolific enlightenment writers. And his quote is, each player must accept the cards that life deals him or her, but once they are in hand, only he or she can decide on how to play the cards in order to win the game. Now, I think Voltaire was talking about, when he talks about the game, I think he was talking about the game of life. And I've seen in my time as a coach over the last 25 years, and I've been privileged to work with some pretty amazing people in that time. And I've met lots of inspirational athletes in my time as well. And I believe the game of life, people sometimes can get stuck in blaming the cards that they've been dealt, whether they is that they've had, you know, a really tough upbringing, whether that is that they've had a phenomenal upbringing. But because of the pressure that they felt from their parents, they buckled under the pressure and couldn't perform to their best. So sometimes we blame the parents because of the poor upbringing, and sometimes we blame the parents because they had it all delivered on a plate. And of course, we also blame our partners, we blame our kids, we blame our boss, we blame the government, we blame c circumstances instead of actually accepting the cards that we've been dealt and doing the best we can with those cards. And it's a really powerful quote to make sure that we don't get stuck in blaming stuff for our lack of achieving our goals, whatever those goals might be, whether that's personally or professionally. So have a think about Voltaire's quote and have a think about are you limiting your potential with the story that you're telling yourself about the cards that you've been dealt? Whether, as I said, whether you've had a really poor upbringing, don't let that be the excuse to stop you from doing and achieving more than you believe you could possibly achieve. Because there are examples, millions of examples out there of people that have had those really poor upbringings and bad backgrounds and, you know, had, you know, disfigurement or lost a limb, but then continued to go out and push the boundaries and break goals and set new records. So as this new year, as this year is closing out, think about what are you going to do to challenge yourself to an even better version of yourself in 2025? I look forward to sharing my next quote with you. Next week. And until then, have a phenomenal rest of this week. Bye for now.
