This is a YouTube video titled "Monday Motivation BFG4" containing an inspirational talk recorded in October 2024. Jim Rees shares a motivational quote from Albert Einstein and discusses its relevance to overcoming criticism and naysayers in both personal and professional life, accompanied by another speaker who adds commentary and reflections.
Welcome to this week's inspirational quote from my book, Built for Greatness. This week's quote comes from Albert Einstein, considered to be one of the most brilliant minds of the 20th century. His quote is, great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds. So what was he getting at? I think for me, trying to unpack.
That is fairly simple.
I think the lay people of his time and media at the time, journalists.
Who had very little understanding of some of the theories that he was trying to come up with and some of the approaches that he was trying to solve, had a view, had an opinion of those things and quite likely attempted to put him down in his thinking and his theories. Whereas, actually, I'm sure he would have welcomed feedback from his peers at the time to give him further insight to stretch his thinking about some of the things that he was trying to achieve. What does that mean in today's world? Well, I guess if you take it in today's world, we've got a lot of social media, so you get the Internet cowboys and cowgirls that chip in with their view and opinion that have very little experience of the topic that you might be pursuing yourself in your career or your personal life. So make sure that you solicit the ideas and opinions of people that are close to you, that are well intended, as opposed to those people that don't even know you and don't know your field of expertise at all. And don't allow those views and opinions of the naysayers stop you and derail you from achieving the things that you're looking to try and achieve in your life and also professionally.
Hope you enjoyed this week's quote and.
Look forward to hearing from you at some point soon.
