80/20 Rule

Mark J. Podolsky explains the 80/20 rule: 20% of your effort produces 80% of your results. Audit your weekly activities to find the high-impact tasks that drive sales, then cut the rest. The principle feels unfair but works in business and life.

Hey, it's Mark Podolski, the lane Geek.
For thelanegeek.com let's have another virtual cup of coffee together. Still sticking with that bulletproof coffee, man. I'm loving it. Okay, let's talk about one of my favorite principles. I know I've talked about this before, but I think it's worth mentioning again because I'm kind of struggling through it myself. So I thought, well, if I'm struggling through it, maybe some of you are as well.
It's Pareto's principle. It's the 8020 rule. And that means that 80. That means that 20% of your effort accounts for 80% of the results. Right?
So if you reverse it, 80% of what we're doing can be inefficient because it's only producing 20% of the results.
So how do we know what to do on any given day? So we're not wasting our time, Right? We're focused only on the activities that. That are going to produce 80% of the results. So the rest of the time is really worked efficiently and not inefficiently. What do you do?
Okay, this is what I'm going to do today is I'm going to literally analyze my week and look at all the activities that I've been doing and what were the results?
What activities actually got me sales. Because at the end of the day.
Without sales, we're not in business, Right?
So what activities did I have to.
Do that actually were sales for me? And where did they come from?
So you've got to analyze your business systems. Find out what activities are going to.
Be the most effective and the most efficient so we can take advantage of the 8020 rule.
Why don't most people think about this? Because the 8020 rules just seems so unfair. It seems so unbalanced. Why should 20% of the nation's wealth be or why should 80% of the nation's wealth be controlled by 20% of the people? Right. It just seems unfair, so we kind of ignore it. It just kind of goes against everything we think. Like what? Really? But it's true. So use the Pareto principle to your advantage. Work more efficiently, work more effectively in.
