Are The Land Geeks Working The Last Two Weeks Of The Year?

Roundtable podcast-style YouTube video (recorded Dec 28, 2021) hosted by Mark J. Podolsky with Scott Bossman, Eric Peterson, Tate Litchfield, and Scott Todd. The group discusses whether to work during the last two weeks of the year, sharing varied approaches: some plan to check in an hour a day, others will largely keep operations running via teams and VAs while they recharge. The episode also includes a Tip of the Week recommending the book Profit First and closes with sponsor/call-to-action items for Flight School and listener engagement.

Hey, it's Mark Podolski, the land geek with your favorite niche real estate website, thelandgeek.com and on this week's roundtable, we have almost all the usual suspects. We've got dude buddy, the nightcap OG Scott Bossman. Scott, how are you?
Great, Mark. Glad to be here.
Look at that fancy office. Man. If you guys aren't watching this on video, Scott's looking fancy. We've got the technician, Eric Peterson. Eric, how are things?
I'm, I'm doing good.
Good to see you. I love it when you call me big Papa. Tate. Litchfield in Vegas, baby. Vegas. Tate, how are things?
Ah, good. Little chilly out today. I don't like it.
I know it. I know it. And last but not least, we've got the brain, the professor, your flight school Sherpa. Scott. Todd. Scott. Todd.netlandmoto.com Learn anything about anything. Investor ninjas.com Scott. Todd, how are things in beautiful Tampa Bay?
They are beautiful, man.
Couldn't ask for a better day.
So we've got an interesting topic. It's timely. Do we work the last two weeks of the year as we gear up for the holiday season? And I know we've talked about this before, but this year in, in 2021, given the market and it's been an amazing market, why not just take the time off? I don't know. I wonder what everyone's doing. Is anyone seeing a holiday slowdown? Dude, Buddy. Scott Bossman, what are your thoughts?
I think for the next couple weeks, it's kind of business as usual for me. But that being said, I mean, an hour a day in my land business is probably what I'm doing and I enjoy spending that hour a day in my land business. It's been a busy couple weeks. We had a great Black Friday. I anticipate there's going to be a little bit of a. We're acquiring some parcels this, this month as well. I appreciate. I anticipate there's going to be a little push here toward the end of the year with an end of year, the end of the year deal. But just, you know, the word that comes to mind again is just grateful because six years ago I was working ten times that amount. And, you know, I have this business that has grown to a point where, and it continues to grow, by the way, with a fraction of the time spent in the business now compared to when I first started. So. So I would say, you know, I plan on working an hour and a day in my land business. An hour a day in My land business for the rest of the year and. And will be consistent with that.
Do you hear that? That small violin playing for you?
Right? I know, right?
Yeah. An hour a day. Not that I should complain, but Eric Peterson, the technician. Are you going to be modeling the Scott Bossman approach? Yeah.
I mean, I think the rest of my year does look very similar to what Scott Bossman just said. You know, I guess what I would add in there is, during this time of year, I know my family tends to get pretty busy. My kids have exams this week. Their schedules are not their typical full day of school, and they have pickups at all different times of day and family in town and different things like that. So there will be days where I don't work on the land business at all because I'm doing other things. But for the most part, I'll be. I'll be checking in here and there. But I guess I would add that, you know, my team is. Is still working. You know, we're not going to stop trying to sell property. We're not going to try to, you know, stop buying property. But I also understand that just everybody else is probably just as busy as me, so things just, by the nature of people being busy are going to tend to slow down a little bit. But I still anticipate we can get a few more sales this year.
In.
The time that's left.
All right, sounds good. So Landopia is not shutting down. The phones will be manned.
They will.
Okay. Big Papa Tate, Litchfield, What's.
You know, we are staying put for the last couple of weeks of the year.
We're not.
We're not traveling or doing anything fun like that. So I really don't see any reason to turn off the machine. But am I going to maybe neglect some of my responsibilities a little bit? Probably, yeah. You know, I got a big old brisket I need to take care of, and that's going to take some time. So I'm not gonna. I'm kidding. I'm not gonna neglect anything, but attention will be elsewhere. It's a fun time of the year for us young kids. And so we got the big man coming in a couple weeks, and so we're playing up on that. But family first over the next couple weeks, and then we're really looking forward to hitting 1-1-par. We want to come out of the gates, swing in, and I'm gonna be recharging my batteries, but that doesn't mean that the business will stop. We still have VAs that are coming to work the Team members are still doing their responsibilities. Unless they've told us they're not working. They are expected to complete their daily tasks every day.
Well, it looks like I owe Scott Bossman five bucks because I took the under, which was that you had mentioned the traeger in some way and grilling. Look, it was very close and I was wrong.
Yeah. Anytime I can help Scott Bossman out a little bit, I would.
Yeah.
Thanks, buddy.
Yeah, you can.
Don't forget my cut, Scott Bossman.
You see, there's, there's an in group and out group here with the smoking, right?
Yeah, I can tell. I. I'm joining the in group, I believe.
Are you joining? Well, okay, fine. So all of you will be smoking a delicious brisket. I'm going vegetarian just to snub it, just out of spite. So last but not least, Scott. Todd, what are you. What are you doing?
First of all, I'm kind of, I'm kind of shocked that Tate referred to me as the big man's coming to town. I mean, Kate, come on. I thought. I mean, come on, man. Uncle Todd.
Uncle Todd.
Todd's coming to town.
But anyway, anyway, uh, you know, Mark, here's the thing is what we teach in flight school is not to build yourself a full time job. Now, not everybody wants to listen to that advice or some people find it hard to listen to that advice or not. And it's, it's a very hard piece of the equation is to get yourself out of the business, right? Like that's the, that's a whole, whole job in itself is to getting yourself out of something that you created, but in profit first. Mike Kalowitz talks about taking your profit first, right? To look at the revenue that comes in and to allocate some of the money towards your profit. Here's the thing. What entrepreneurs don't do is they do a terrible job at rewarding themselves with time off and they feel guilty. Maybe they feel like, well, maybe they haven't replaced themselves yet, right? Like maybe they haven't taking the advice that we teach in flight school, which is how to build a VA team. Maybe they haven't done that. And so then the question comes, do I have to shut down or do I keep working? Well, if you build a business, you don't have to shut down. You get your vacation time, you get to pay, pay yourself first with vacation time. And the good thing about being an entrepreneur is you don't have to just take it like, you know, at the beginning of the year, you can take it throughout the Year, whenever you want. You can take it every week if you want to. And so really, what I want to do in the last two weeks of the year is one, I want to recharge my battery. So I plan on, like, shutting down. But again, it doesn't mean that the business shuts down. The business will continue to operate. Okay? The business will keep going because we're building a land buying and selling machine.
Now.
That said, it will be a true test, okay? And this. I like to use these periods of time as little tests, like, can the business operate without me? And, you know, I'm around. I can see where it is, but I can. I can let it kind of stew a little bit without me, and then I can jump in and kind of see where the deficiencies are to fix them and to kind of give me a better picture. So I think it all depends on your approach. But it is nice to be able to tell someone, hey, I don't want to be around for two weeks. I'll just be doing whatever I want to do. Live my life, man.
Yeah, I love it. I will be doing the same exact thing as you, which will be, I will be in rejuvenation mode and looking at the fishies mode in Cozumel where I will be scuba diving for a week. That being said, I will have my Google Fi in hand, and if something comes up, I'll check. I'll be around. But the team will continue to work, and the machine will continue to work, and we will continue to do deals. And there's no better feeling than maybe seeing a shark and having passive income come into your bank account.
That's like a drop the mic statement right there.
Is it?
I mean, there's no better feeling than scuba diving while making passive income. That's basically what you said.
I mean, you guys can make an argument now, or the three of you could make an argument that there's no better feeling than smoking a brisket and making passive income. Scott Boston could make the argument, there's no better feeling than having a snowball fight in Ownalaska while also making passive income. So, you know, you got to choose your. Your thing.
I'm sorry, Mark, you. You lost me like, three minutes ago. Did you say your Google Fi.
I was gonna ask.
So he can stay in touch.
So I can stay in touch.
What are you talking about? Why. Why would you have such a. Such a device?
No, you take your. The little SIM card, the SIM chip, to replace it when you go out of country, and it's way cheaper than A Verizon or your mobile carriers.
Where are you going again?
Mexico.
Mexico?
Verizon. Verizon covers Mexico on their plans. Automatic. What are you talking about?
Maybe I won't need it. I was just thinking of Jamaica. So now I know. I'm glad I brought it up. Like, I'm.
I'm like, what? Wait, what is he talking about? Why would he go to such a terrible device?
All right, fine. Well, it's not going to be so terrible when I'm in different countries that don't cover it, so. Okay, all right.
Or you could just go without and truly live life without a phone.
That's. That is a good point.
Right?
Like, that is a perfect reason. Like, that it would pain you. Think about that. Think about the financial pain that you would reap if you grab that phone and check email or something.
All right, I'm doing it. I'm not even going to bring my phone.
You better bring your phone just in.
Case that there's anything I can do. I don't know. It's just fun to box, you guys. I'll send you pictures of.
We know you just have fomo.
Probably, probably. But I'm on point now.
He doesn't want to miss the brisket pictures. That's the problem.
I don't want to miss pictures. The pictures. But we've got to go to our Tip of the week of a website resource, a book, something actionable with auto. Passive income listeners can go improve their businesses, improve their lives. Tate Litchfield, what have you got?
All right. Tips of the week. Tip of the week. Tip of the week. Tip of the Week. There's a lot of good Tip of the weeks out there. And for this week's Tip of the Week, I am going to refer you to a Tip of the Week from Scott Todd that he mentioned earlier, which is Profit First. This is some light Christmas reading. If you haven't read Profit first, do it. Because if you're going to run a successful land business, you need to understand how to pay yourself, how to manage the money. And Profit first is one of those books that everybody on this call has adopted, and we highly recommend it for anyone getting started in the land business. So if you got a, you know, airplane ride or a drive to see the laws this year, around the end of the year, pick up the audible version. It's really good. And check it out. Boom. Tip of the Week.
Boom. Well, I want nothing on me, listeners. And remind them the only way we're going to be able to put Tate on the spot for the tip of the week is if you just. Three favors you got to follow rate.
