Coffee Talk- Leveraging Google Alerts

Hey, it's Mark Podolski, the lane geek@thelanegeek.com and let's have another cup of coffee together. Today I'm just having an Americano from Starbucks with two honey. If you listen to my last podcast with Duran, you know that I'm trying to be pretty healthy, stay away from processed sugar. So I thought honey was a good way to go. But that's not why you're listening. You're here because you want tips on how to make money buying and selling raw land. And here we go. Here's a great one. So it's kind of geeky, but it works really well. Google Alerts. What does Google Alerts do? Basically, you can track any keyword you want on the web. So whether it be a news story or your own name and your own reputation is great, but for land, and the way I like to use it is I want to know what my competitors are selling that's similar to me. So I would just put into google.com alerts either that seller's name or the name of my property. And sure enough, up comes the alert into my email inbox and I can see, okay, is their marketing more effective than mine or am I doing better than them? I can kind of keep an automated traffic track of what's going on with my competition, and it's really effective. I do recommend for your reputation, put a Google alert for your name and your company name as well. See who's out there talking about you. So if there is an issue, you can quickly respond to it and it's just not out there in the ether that you didn't know about. So anyways, thanks for having this cup of coffee with me again.
