Hey, it's Mark Podolski, the layin geek. Let's have another virtual cup of coffee together this morning. I'm just drinking a Vanillo Nespresso. I don't know, some kind of fancy vanilla espresso. It's good, it's good. So I wanted to talk this morning about dealing with disappointment because inevitably something's going to happen in this business that's going to disappoint you. And I'll give you an example. I spent a day videotaping a three fatal land buying segment with a professional videographer that was referred to me. So this person was referred to me by someone that I know and trust and have a great deal of respect for. And we go out, we do the shoot and spent maybe two hours and I spent money and time and was really excited about how the quality of this product was going to turn out. It turns out we used and when I say we because I didn't know the person I hired gave me the wrong mic and the audio was terrible. And if you ever do anything with video, the most important thing is the audio people will forgive all day long, bad video, but they won't forgive bad audio. So how did I deal with this disappointment? My first reaction was just to blast this person, send them a nasty email, I should get a refund. This was complete incompetence. You should be ashamed of yourself. That was my first reaction. My second reaction was what did I learn from this? And how can I take this disappointment and leverage it so number one, doesn't happen again? And number two, how can I kind of just improve that situation? I guess just learn from it. I don't know. I don't know. But there's a number two, just learn from it, you know. So the first thing I did was just acknowledged I'm disappointed, this sucked and just kind of calmed down and didn't kind of take it out on the world, just kind of kept it in with me because it was disappointing. And then I just wanted to learn from it. And next time I go out on a shoot, I know exactly what kind of microphone I need and next time I'm going to vet the person myself instead of, you know, a recommendation, I'm going to do better research on the person that I hire and think that will improve the result. So leave me a comment, let me know how you deal with disappointment and I think it'd be helpful.
