Hey, it's Mark Panolski, the land geek with your favorite niche real estate website, thelangi.com and on this week's roundtable podcast. It's no roundtable. Taria put in the reps. Harris and I are going to play some ping pong and talk about the new year getting ready for 2025. Teria, how are you?
Oh, I'm doing well. I still can't believe it is 2025.
It's crazy. That year would be fast.
Fast. We moved here almost a year ago. Like, it's gone that fast.
Yeah. So just for those of you who don't know what here is, it's Scottsdale, Arizona. The. The best place on the planet.
Yeah. Or at least one of them. I agree, I agree, I agree. Definitely one of them.
Yeah. So, Tria, let's pivot and talk about. Let's talk about 2024 for a second. And so when you're planning for 2025, how do you do you look back and review your year in any way? Be like, okay, Landon, let's set some goals for 2025. Like, what's your process?
So we definitely look back. I think I mentioned on a previous podcast, we like to take like the last week of the year and just get away. So this year we went to New York. A lot of it is spent hanging out and doing things, but we also spend time focusing on the. We go back, we look at what were our goals for 2024. We have an idea of which ones we've met and didn't meet because we kind of kept up. But what goals do we want to set for 2025? And then we look at, well, why didn't we reach this particular goal? Like, was it something within our control? So if we had a goal of sales per se, one of our goals, how many leads did we bring in? Like, how. How did we miss the goal? If we missed it and if we made it great, what did we do that made us successful in reaching that? And how can we replicate that moving into 2025? So we definitely look back.
Yeah. Now, do you do this with your. Just you and Landon, or do you with the team as well?
So we do it just Landon and I, but someone else mentioned, like, hey, they sit down with their team and I thought that's a great idea. We have like quarterly meetings with our team, especially marketing and sales, but it would be nice to just kind of get a debrief of the year. Right, right. What was successful? What did we fail at as a company? You Know how can we be better and just hear it from their perspective? I think that would be great. How about you? Do you do that?
So I do we. Yeah, we do a year end review and then we do a quarterly planning meeting.
Yeah.
As well. And so nice. It's a really nice way to celebrate the wins. Look at where we, we fell short and then get really excited about what we can accomplish in 2025. So you know, I set sort of three goals. I've got like, you know, if it all goes to hell goal. And then I've got like what would the goal. Yeah, exactly. And then I've got the stretch goal, so. Got it, Got it. Yeah. Because there are, there are some things, you know, that are not within our control. Right.
Correct. Correct.
And so it's kind of, it kind of keeps the team motivated. Everybody wants to hit that stretch goal as well.
Yeah.
And it's kind of fun. But what I like to do is I like to go through my calendar and like what were the, the people, the places, things I did that brought me joy and energy and then schedule more of that like now for 2025. So it's already in the calendar.
That's a great idea.
Yeah. And then I see like what didn't bring me joy and then eliminate that. Now look, there's always gonna be 10% of, of any, you know, day that doesn't bring me joy.
And that's okay, but necessary, right?
It's necessary.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I mean, you know, you always have to pick up the poop, so to speak. Right?
Absolutely.
You've got a great pet, but you gotta pick up the poop. Yeah. And that's not that big a deal, so.
Absolutely, absolutely.
There's always that. And, and so. Yeah, I mean there's just some accounting things like I just can't get out of. Right. There's a lot of numbers things that I don't necessarily love, but I can't get out. Yeah, I don't. What, what is it for you? What's your poop?
I think dealing with in terms of day to day stuff sometimes is buyers that anytime I have to deal with people so that, that's my poop. But it wouldn't be landin. Like I, I love the technology, I love the processes, I love the system. You put me there. Leave me alone. Turn the lights out. I'm good. So anytime I have to interact with like buyers, I love my coaching clients. They're not the poop for me, but buyers, they are. They drive me nuts. They drive me Nuts.
Okay, let's talk about your coaching clients for a second. Yeah. So what, what are you seeing as far as them setting their goals for 2025? Now we work on a, a 12 week year system. So every day is a week, every week is a month. It really compresses that time. So people are really trying to hit their, their 12 week go year goals.
Right.
Are you seeing any difference in your coaching clients as far as expectations than you did say maybe a year or two ago?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
You are. You are.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think all of them come in with expectations, but I would say my ones that I've picked up this past year, they, they have expectations, but they are getting after it. Like, so they're like his, this is what I want to do. How do I do it? Right? Tell me what to do. So they are eager to get after it. What I like to do with my coaching clients also is help them remember that it's a process. Because sometimes with great expectations come great disappointment because they're, I'm like, come on. But let's look at where you were. So just like we set our goals quarterly, we go back and review our goals. No, you did this, this, this, this, you know, these five things you've accomplished. So, so yes, their expectations are there. Most of them have reasonable expectations. But yeah, they, they want to get after it.
Yeah. Are you, are you bullish on the land market for 2025?
No, not really. I, I, I wouldn't say, I wouldn't say bullish at all. I'm actually looking forward to 2025. I'm, I'm hoping.
No, no, bul, bearish would mean you're is, is you're not looking forward to 2020. Bu.
Oh, okay, yes. Then yes, I am. I am.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm looking forward, I'm looking forward to 2025. I think in 2024 with an election year and things just being a little bit uncertain, there was uncertainty we saw, even in the land business. So I'm just ready for it to settle in and move forward. So, yes, I am looking forward to it.
Absolutely. Okay, so what are you most fired up about for 2025?
I'm most fired up about growth.
Growth. What kind, what kind of growth? Personal growth, Spiritual growth, Professional growth?
Definitely spiritual growth. Definitely personal growth. So I'm trying to convince Landon to do a show in November. So we're going to work towards that. Maybe we can get you to do a show too.
Yeah, I'll do it.
Let's talk, let's Talk, let's go. And then I'm, I'm also very, very pumped about the business. I'm extremely pumped about the business. Every year we see it trend. We do better. Every year. Even if we don't hit 100 of all of our goals, we've done better. So I'm excited about growing the business more this year as well.
Yeah, I'm, I'm so excited about growth in that land business, I can't even tell you. We grew 36% last year, which is fantastic. And that's an uncertain year. And so it's hard to say, okay, we want to grow again 36%, but.
Why not shoot for it? Right?
Right, Absolutely. So if we grow 20%, no one's really upset. And I think it's, you know, every year I'm kind of like, you, like, what's the system? What's the process? Like, how do we make this simpler, more efficient?
Absolutely.
And, and I'm not even afraid to slow down. Like, what's that, that seal phrase? You know, you slow down to speed up.
Speed up or slowly?
Slow is smooth. Smoothest Fast.
Yep, yep. Yeah. Which I think there's nothing wrong with that. We've had to go back and like, take several steps back, like, okay, wait a minute, this is functioning, but it's not working. So let's take a few steps back, regroup, and then, you know, trend ahead. But tell me, in terms of when you're setting your goals, do you set markers? Like, hey, I want a percentage or I want a dollar amount or how do you set the goal and then how do you track or measure?
Yeah, so we have a big goal and we're tracking it in notion.
Yeah, yeah, I like notion.
Yeah. So we're using notion IO to track it, but so the team sort of helps with it as well. So we get buy in from everybody. Like, here's our goal. Here's. And this is getting us. So at the rate we're going, we're not going to hit the goal for six years, but.
Okay, long term goals.
Yeah. So we have a long term goal.
Yeah, yeah. Okay. Got it, got it. Sounds good. What about resolutions? Do you set those for yourself for your business at the beginning of the year.
Yeah. So I, I, this year I would have a calmer mind.
Of course you do.
A fitter body and really deepen all my relationships. And so where can I, you know, then it's like, okay, well, how can I put that into my calendar? How do I make sure I've got time so that Right. I'm really growing into the best version of myself. And. And, you know, I got to change it up. Right. So I have to change up, like, my meditation routine, my. My breath routine, so. So it doesn't get boring, you know, workout. I am. Look, I'm sticking with my X3 bar. Don't laugh, but I. Look, I love it. It's a 10 minute, intense workout.
I love it.
Are you eating cleaner? I am growing.
Good. That's all that matters.
And then just having those important conversations with people I love leaving nothing unsaid, really. Being intentional, trying to be more present, trying to put the phone away. I mean, my attention span is getting so bad. Like, I have the attention span of ferret on a double cappuccino. I can't read anymore. I can't focus anymore. Like, it's so bad. And I. And I don't do anything on social media. It's just enough just to check, you know, slack and email and.
Yes.
And all the dopamine hits like such. It's such a struggle. I might have to hire. I have no therapist, which, by the way, we. We have one in our. In our community.
In our community. No way.
Yeah. So, yeah. Okay.
I did not know that.
Yeah, he's fantastic. So I have to get him and his partner, Allah on the podcast and talk about his.
That would be great. Any. Anything that helps calm. Create calm and a sense of calm.
Yeah. Okay. So what about you? I mean, I know you want to do the show.
Yes.
Landing the show.
Yep. Yep. So we started jotting down our goals. So we haven't. So we have to go away again a little bit this week. And so we're gonna wrap that up and finalize what we want to do, because we have personal goals and we have, you know, goals that we've set collectively, but definitely we have the goals of what we want to do. We just haven't seen set down and factored in how we're going to accomplish them. And that's important because I'm so tired of setting goals without, like you said, now I got to make sure my calendar reflects. Now I have to make sure, you know, my choices are in line with the goals that I'm set. So we have goals, but now we need to put steps in place to protect those goals and help us reach them. And we're supposed to finalize that this week.
Yeah. You know what is a great book to read at least this time of year, once a year, is Atomic Habits. It's such a great reminder.
One of my Favorite books. That could be the tip of the week.
That's the tip of the week.
All right.
Atomic hat. Read Atomic Habits beginning of the year of the week.
Yeah, for sure. Sign up for James Clear because he sends a three, two, one every week. I get an email. Right. The three two ones are amazing. So read the book and then sign up for the week.
Sign up for his newsletter.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
He's such a great writer.
He's. He's really good. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I think he's got like the Atomic Habits calendar or journal. He has something to make it easier to help you with your goal setting as well.
Yeah.
So it could be like your one stop shop for all things 2025. Goal setting.
Exactly. What a wonderful tip, Mark.
Yeah, Great. Awesome.
I love it.
All right. Well, Tria, this has been a fun game of ping pong. I want to remind the listeners the only way I'm gonna get Cheria back to play ping pong with me if you do three little favors. Absolutely.
Yeah.
We've done well. We've gone back to. Is it photo Coto. We've gone back there like three times since you. Since we went with you guys.
Did you get the. We didn't get the Turo.
The Turo. No, we didn't get the turo.com.
Yeah.
That was so good though.
That was so good. I've been back once since we went and I did do the Turo again.
It's delicious.
It is so good.
It's delicious.
Yeah. Laney made black code over the, over the holidays. It was, it was better. It's like really so good. It's butter. It's.
It's okay.
Yeah.
She's a phenomenal cook anyway, so I'm not surprised, but I don't know if I've ever had black cod before.
Oh, you will. You'll love it. They have it. They have it at sushi restaurants. Like, I know Nobu has it.
Okay.
Sapporo out here, I think has it. Okay.
I have to try it.
Yeah, but it's not. It's not common like you. It's. But if I see it on menu, I always order it.
It's really.
Yeah.
Is it light cod, like, white?
It's what makes it flaky. It's just butter.
It's okay.
And we use, like, this special, like, soy sauce. It's so good.
Interesting.
It's so good. Trust me.
Okay. I have to get a recipe.
Yeah, for sure. And. Oh, you have to help stay accountable. You and Land will be my accountability partner. Way less sugar. I'm not saying no sugar, but way, way less sugar. Like. Like, I'm having, like, a lint chocolate one a day. That's it.
Okay. Are you tracking this?
Yeah, I have my.
Remember your app?
Yeah.
Yeah, perfect. Put it in your app. How many things have sugar that you just don't know? So just make sure you stay within a certain. I think I can get 50 grams of sugar a day before.
50 grams?
Yes, before it starts having adverse. But that includes everything like fruit, like, natural sugar. I'm not talking about eating a Snicker.
Okay. Okay.
That's everything.
I got to sleep eight, by the way. And I'm tracking. I'm tracking my sleep, my hrv, my heart rate. It's unbelievable.
Okay, so is this the newer model? Because Landon and I looked at it Black Friday. We thought about it. Okay.
So, yeah, it is so good. And then it uses AI to, like. My REM sleep has gotten, like, 28% better this week using AI, so it's, like, keeping me cooler during the night. Now, last night was. I didn't have a great night's sleep. I don't know why, but I'm tracking it. Oh, yeah. You know what? You know why I didn't. I think because it didn't work out yesterday.
Oh, yeah, that could. Yeah, that could affect that. That could definitely affect it.
Yeah.
Okay. Sleep eight. We're gonna order one.
You should. Okay. It's.
Yeah.
It is phenomenal.
Yeah.
It is a total, total game changer.
We started researching. We. We were almost ready to pull the plug. Nor, like, well, let's go on another trip. So we spent that money on a.
Trip and then because of you, I got the purple pillow.
Don't you love that?
I love that pillow. It's. Yeah, it is fantastic.
Yes.
Yeah.
I love. We. We have, I think the purple mattress. The purple pillow.
Yeah.
Yeah, I love it. Sheets. The sheets are really good too, but yeah, for sure.
Sheets.
Yeah.
So we'll have to do another podcast of, like, our favorite things.
We've gotten so far off land.
Like, the things that really move the needle in our lives. For sure. Yeah. I think. I think most listeners already dropped off every stop.
They are not talking about anything I want to hear. Yeah.
All right. Should we do this?
Let's do it.
Let. Let freedom.
Freedom bring.
Thanks, everybody. Thanks, Tria.
