Hey, it's Mark Podolski, the lane Geek from thelanegeek.com let's have a virtual cup of coffee together this morning. Just having a nice Americano shot of espresso, some water. It's great. So this tip alone is a productivity tip, and literally, it could transform your life. Because I have to tell you, I've got a serious, serious problem with it. And I bet you you might do it as well. And I'll show you my problem right now. It's this, it's the phone. So I'll give you an example. I wake up in the morning. First thing I do is I check my email. Throughout the day, I'm constantly checking my email. I get in the car, I check my email. I. I'm in the car. I actually might be driving and hear the ding or feel the vibration. And in traffic, check my email. I know it's dumb. Intellectually, I know this. And I've come to realize that this has become a huge, huge problem for me professionally and personally. And it's like email has become like a slot machine. And I keep checking it to see if I have a good message. And so it's like this neurotic, panicky feeling of, did I get a good message? Did I get a good message? 1 out of 50 might actually be something that I consider something that I need to attend to. But most of the time, there's nothing really urgent in that email inbox. So what I've done to increase my productivity, and I'm on day five of this email detox for myself is all day long, all day, all night, I keep my phone on do not disturb all the time. Do not disturb. Now, if my wife calls me or somebody in my favorites calls me, the phone will ring and I will hear it. But most of the time, I won't hear it. Now, what I'll do is I'll block a set of time, let's say from one to two, and I'll actually, during that time, return my phone calls, check my email, and then that's it. That's the block of time devoted to doing all that. Otherwise, there's really never anything urgent. When the kids get home from school, I actually put the phone away so I don't look at it. And I might look at it before bed, but even then I don't feel great doing it. But now when I wake up, I actually spend some time with my wife. During the day, I'm actually getting work done without any interruptions. I'm telling you, it's fantastic. It feels liberating. And if you are having this issue like I have, then certainly try putting your phone on do not disturb and block out a time in your calendar for when you will actually mindfully, consciously check your phone and attend to those items that really need to be attended to.
