Mark J. Podolsky (The Land Geek) records a short, informal YouTube vlog recommending mindfulness meditation—citing Dan Harris's book '10% Happier' and Headspace app—arguing that meditation improves decision-making and compassion, which benefits business negotiations. He illustrates with a personal anecdote about sending an angry email, links the idea to fair treatment of customers in land sales, and promotes resources on his site thelandgeek.com (Passive Income Blueprint, an ebook on avoiding three fatal mistakes, and a podcast).

Hey, it's Mark Podols, the land Geek with thelandgeek.com and today it's so beautiful out. And what is it, November in Scottsdale? So my partner and I are sitting outside and we're gonna have a little virtual cup of coffee together. Outside of can't show it on the screen, but it's Starbucks. All right, so I'm nice and wired. I was just reading a book by Dan Harris, 10% happier. And it was pretty interesting because he talks a lot about mindfulness meditation, which I've talked about before. I meditate every morning. I use this great app called Headspace. But, you know, he is showing scientifically that meditation helps us make better decisions in business and makes us more compassionate, which also, again, helps us become more successful. Jon Kabat Zinn is another one of these people that is a big proponent of mindfulness meditation, and I'll give you an example. So Duran and I got in an argument over the weekend, and I shot him off, you know, an angry email. I'm angry at that point, and instead of taking a deep breath, being mindful and getting my ego out of the way, which is what Dan Harris would say to do, and writing a more mindful email out, I just sent it out and then later regretted it and had to spend all this energy going back and, you know, putting my tail between my legs and saying, sorry, Duran, I was a jerk. Anyways, this applies to everything in life, but especially in business and especially in our land business, because when we're negotiating with our customers, we want to be mindful of the way we're negotiating. We don't want to just skin them. What's the saying? You can skin a sheep once or, you know, you want to shear them. I don't know. It's a bad example. Anyways, my point is we want to treat our customers well. We don't want to treat them like sheep at all. So there you go. Anyways, check it out. Dan Harris, 10% happier.
