A speaker introduces the 7 Day 7 Night Challenge: stop saying anything negative about anyone and use only their real name for a week. The constraint forces you to listen instead of react, breaking the automatic habit of absorbing others' negativity. The real work is deciding what to do with what you hear.

So the 7 Day 7 Night Challenge goes like this: for 7 days, 7 nights, don't say one negative word about another human on the planet. And for 7 days, 7 nights, don't call another person a name other than their own. And I thought, on the 8th day, I'll go back to my old ways. That's what I thought. So in other words, I was always affected or infected by what other people would say to me, and I would take it on, and I would have become exactly what I saw and what I heard. And so I would reverse engineer the process emotionally. And that's what the 7-Day Challenge allowed me to do because I started to hear all this stuff, whereas before I would just react to it and wouldn't hear it. And that's part of the challenge really is what are you doing with what you're hearing? What is so important about what they're saying? So today I focus on what I'm doing with what I'm hearing versus I really don't care what they say.
