Tilly Lockey carves a pumpkin using her bionic prosthetic hands, but worries about pumpkin juice damaging the motors. She calls Open Bionics for safety advice, decides to use her regular arms for the messy parts, and shows off the finished jack-o'-lantern.

Hi everyone, it's Tilly, and today we're going to be carving some pumpkins.
So if you know me, you'll know that autumn or fall, however you call it, is my favorite season out of the four. I love just the last 3 months, like autumn and winter are beats summer and spring by far for me. I just feel happiest at these times, and I love the cold a lot more than the heat, so I just feel really, really cozy. And I decided to put the fire on behind because it looks cute and cozy and sets the mood. But yeah, I'm going to be carving pumpkins today, and it's fair to say that I'm not the best pumpkin carver, so I've decided to go a lot more simpler this year because last year I did Harry Potter and it wasn't the best. I ended up like carving it all wrong, and his glasses were like falling off. So yeah, it wasn't great. So I've decided to go simpler now, and I've had a quick search and found the pumpkin that I want to recreate. So I'll show you that now. So that's the pumpkin I'm hoping to carve, and hopefully it all goes well. As you can see from the montage I just played there of all our decorations, that we go all out for Halloween, all that for autumn here in the Lockey household. And we've actually done quite well because it is the 27th of October when I'm filming this right now, and I think that's a great time to start carving pumpkins because they won't be like really, really moldy by the time it's actually Halloween. Because we always get overexcited and do everything way early, so we've actually done quite well this year. But I'm gonna stop rambling and I'm just gonna get into it. So if you want to see how I carve my pumpkin and see how it turns out, keep on watching and we'll see how well it goes. So we actually have different cutlery pieces to help this year, not because we're just some posh people who don't like getting our hands dirty. Usually we would just have a knife and then you would use your hands or your arms to pull out all the guts of the pumpkin. But this year, my mam is an event organizer and community fundraiser for Menagerie Is Now. And when we were in South Africa, she actually put on an event where they had like 400 people come, and it was a pumpkin parade, and it was a lot of fun. They had this nice stroll through this forest full of pumpkins. But this meant while we were in South Africa, my mom like gathered together all different friends and family, and they all just sat all day and carved pumpkins because they needed 100 before the morning. So Now my mom is pretty sick of the sight of pumpkins. She never wants to see one again, but I'm not quite done, as you can see here. So we've got some added tools to help with that this year, but I'm just gonna crack on and cut this head off the pumpkin. So let's go! Got my hands here to help out a bit, and I'm gonna take Wait for it to turn off. The little dagger, and then I'm gonna start cutting off the top of the pumpkin.
So here we go, let's hope I don't stab myself because that would be unfortunate.

So the camera died.
And the light has changed a little bit. The sun is starting to set now and it's quite a bit later, but I've charged up the camera, so continuing from there. Sorry if it's a different angle and the lighting's changed, but that's why. So I finished cutting out the top of the pumpkin and now I'm going to pull out all the guts inside it, and that's always the funnest part. So let's go.

So I've just thought, I'm not even sure if I'm allowed to use my hands to pull all this out because like they can't get wet, so I'd only be able to clean them with baby wipes or just Dettol wipes, something like that. But I don't really know if I'm supposed to get like pumpkin juice and pumpkin seeds or inside the motors might stop the hand from working. So I'm gonna check with Sammy down at Open Bionics and actually see if that's allowed. I probably should have thought about this, but problems with having mechanic hands. So this is what we've just said to Sammy. Hi Sammy, is it okay to pull pumping goods out with the hands? A genuine question, and hopefully she replies soon. So I think I'm gonna just start and pull it out with just my arms, just to be on the safe side. But for you other amputees, if you're watching, I'm gonna let you know if you can carve a pumpkin, pull the pumpkins without wearing hands. So there you go. But since I didn't film this video, I'm just gonna be on the safe side and do it without. But here we go.

I have got this little spoon here, but I kind of like just getting like stuck in and doing it without it. It kind of feels nice, but yeah, we don't need no spoon.

So this is the pumpkin so far.
I've got all the seeds out of it. And it's pretty clean, and I can make a full-on pumpkin pie out of this. There was a lot in there, it took some time, and I made a lot of mess. And here's the result of my hand after you pull everything out. Gave myself a clean, but only one arm, because I didn't have to clean the other one because the other one was safe because it was inside of this. And now this is covered, so that's a plus. But I've left that dirty for now because that'll be a challenge that I'll have to tackle later. But yeah, now I've got my permanent marker and I'm going to start putting the face on this guy. So here is the pumpkin so far, and now all I need to do is cut it out.

So here's the pumpkin. I've carved it all out.
It's got a face now. It means cleaned up a little bit on the inside. There's still some guts pouring out everywhere, but yeah, it's pretty much done. I hope you like this video.
